Anyone have a rational explanation?

"1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 "Say to the Israelites: 'A woman who becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son will be ceremonially unclean for seven days, just as she is unclean during her monthly period. 3 On the eighth day the boy is to be circumcised. 4 Then the woman must wait thirty-three days to be purified from her bleeding. She must not touch anything sacred or go to the sanctuary until the days of her purification are over. 5 If she gives birth to a daughter, for two weeks the woman will be unclean, as during her period. Then she must wait sixty-six days to be purified from her bleeding..." Leviticus 12.

I think it is related to eating shellfish, ect. Disease/infection control. It's not nessesarily "sexist"

Just my opinion anyways.

Women should not be allowed to lead a church or any group within a church other than a womens bible study.

Women should not speak up during church services.

Women should not be allowed to be supervisors or managers in a place of employment.

Women should never have the final say at home when the husband is present.

They went one to explain to me that a violation of any of the things listed above is not only blatant disregard for God's natural order, but is a shame and disgrace to the men who reported to a female leader (in any capacity)

They provided the verses to support it and everything checked out so the Bible does in fact teach this...

I don't believe the bible, but for those who do, do you think these teaching should be taken literally in this modern day in age?

Do you feel these teachings are ethical??
Does it make the LORD JESUS CHRIST inferior to be in subjection to THE FATHER? No! The TRIUNE GOD demonstrates perfect harmony and levels of authority. GOD the FATHER has special tasks, GOD the SON has special tasks , and the HOLY SPIRIT has special task. Each on compliments the other. Does a leg offend the body or provide it with mobility? Are eyes better than ears? Which of us would choose to be without either? We are not perfect and live in a sinful world. We can not fully appreciate shared responsibilities unless one can assume another's role fully. That is not what GOD is about and the very fact that men cannot get pregnant is logical proof.

I'm still hunting around to find the verse that speaks of the shame a man should feel if he is lead by a woman...

Just my opinion anyways.

But why would she need 14 days quarrantine after delivering a girl, but only 7 days after delivering a boy? Why should ANY post-partum infection or complication be related to the sex of the child? I've done some Pub Med searches, and I've not yet found any medical support for this odd practice at all.

My personal favorite has always been the test for an unfaithful wife from Numbers 5:11-31. A man suspects his wife of adultery, takes her to the priest, the priest feeds her poison (probably an abortifacient) to prove her innocence. Husband doesn't need any evidence, just his own jealousy. There is no equivalent test for men suspected of infidelity.

Brutal, misogynist test from a brutal religion in a brutal time and place.

What?!?

There's no scientific proof that a male baby has any less chance of causing infection for the new mom than a female baby...

Where'd you come up with that?

I also find it rather odd that in most biblical stories of adultery, the woman is always at more fault than the man because she "tempted" him. His punishment is shame and regret, her punishment is getting stoned to death...

Seems fair...

Sexism exists because of obvious differences in men and women:

- Men are generally physically stronger.
- Men are generally less emotional in their decisions and more clear minded when dealing with others.

These simple ideas you can see everywhere; even atheist societies like the USSR and China have had more or less sexist issues within their society.

Traditionally, the man is viewed as a sexually weaker person; an aggressor. There is not really any joy placed on the purity of a man's sexuality so people really do not regard it as fundamentally his duty to remain pure.

Men really have little attached to themselves when they have sex with another as they often do not have the burden of pregnancy.

This is really just a cultural view that I guess is unfortunate but has also been true in nearly every society.

Even in atheist societies, generally the woman's purity is highly valued.

Is the bible sexist??

Yes, of course. However, I don't think that makes God sexist. I think that God is neither solely one nor the other, but that in a patriarchal society, the God, whether God of the OT, or Zeus, is male, and often, a god of wrath, a god of war and conquering.

The lineage in the bible leaves out the women. Women are even told not to speak in temple, but to wait and ask their husbands when they get home. Women are seen as the reason for the fall, the temptress. They are to submit to the husbands, as husbands are to submit to God. (I'm not sure how many Christian men honestly submit to God, or can submit to anyone, as it is congruent with being emasculated, especially in a society where they insult women by calling them an animal - a dog, a cow, a pig, and insult men by calling them a woman.)

However, we know respect women, or are growing to, as equals, as potential competent leaders, even pastors and priests.

But if you look at the Gospels, there are many stories of Christ speaking to women - the woman at the well, the adultress, the woman washing his feet, the woman that touched the hem of his robe and could not be discouraged or pushed away. He appeared to women first when her resurrected.

I think all of these things are important.
