I wasn't aware they celebrated Christmas in Jeremiah's time?

jeremiah 10 doesn't even speak of carving the tree, read it again, it simply speaks of cutting it down, fastening it, and decorating it. I don't care what you say, although i know those of you that do those things will justify yourselves like anyone else, i don't care what you do either, i will not have a pagan tree or a pagan clause in my house.

Santa Claus: he know when you are sleeping, when you are bad, when you are good, etc... HELLO!

*smacks you guys on the back of the head*

What you do is your business, what i do is mine. I do what is pleasing to god, you do what is pleasing to yourself.
Your reasoning is about as flawed as saying we shouldn't have anything made of gold- because the golden calf was made of melted gold and shaped by human hands.

The idea that the creation of an object is 'pagan' is totally absurd. You aren't doing something pagan by making some kind of object. Paganism is the belief in multiple deities, usually represented by man made idols. These idols are then worshipped.

The issue is worshipping an object, not the creation of it. When people make ceramic cows for cute kitchen decorations is that paganism? When you make a cow and worship it as a god, is that paganism? Yes.

Having a Christmas tree isn't pagan- because there is no worshipping of the object. Likewise, you can make an object or painting and not have it be pagan. You can also make any object pagan by worshipping it.

this IS the best post on this thread and succinctly states what the real issue is, not the imaginary perils of holiday decorations (so long as they're UL rated).

Take a look, if you have not already done so. Abraham loves worshipping (at?) trees. And God likes him.

Well I disagree that we're being pagan in using trees as tradition we all grew up with....
but my husband and I don't buy a tree or even decorate for the holiday anymore.

I do semi get a conviction about the pagan similarity - but I really don't think it's "evil" unless someone worships the tree itself or nature or uses it in some form of ceremony becuz the pagans worshipped nature, we do not.

Most people today practice what they grew up with and it was harmless all those years & it's become family tradition.

One reason I stopped doing it is that it's just plain a money trap.
Honestly, add up all those decorations people buy - THAT is crazy to me.
This year I'll string up some lights in the house & that's our Christmas decor.

Eph4:26 has disabled reputation
2. (The xmas tree) is a form of idolatry.

When I use the English word idolatry, I'm using it in the Biblical sense.

Rev. 17:5 -- And upon her forehead a name written, Mystery, Babylon the Great, The Mother of harlots and abominations of the earth.

* harlot - Greek : porne-an idolator; prostitute; " to sell"
* abomination - Greek : bdelgma- detestable; to stink

The Harlot of Babylon, the false world religion has corrupted man throughout history with idolatrous worship.

Gen. 11:4 -- "They said, Let us make us a name"

* name - Hebrew: Shem- honour; authority conspicuous position

In Gen. 11:4 Babylon rebelled against God; mothering all idol worship, founding their idolatrous system, when they said, "Let us make us a name." (honor self).

Pride is the foundation of all idolatry. A man is an idol worshippers (of self), when he says, "I will make a name for myself. I am known as an authority (name) by my idols (cars, houses, lands, things.) My position in the community will cause men to look up to me". This is an abomination. Pride is a stinking smell to God. Christians are to be living, acceptable, (pleasing) sacrifices. (Rom 12:1). Wicked-Spiritual Babylon, mother of idolatry, is the system of "pride" has always been here. It is what will pollute the world at the end of time.

In addition . . .

Luke 12:15 And he (Jesus) said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

Eph 5:5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Col 3:5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

Covetousness = Idolatry

covetousness- greek: pleonektes- to want more; greediness

Idolatry = wanting more

Every man is covetous by nature until God deals with him and causes him to repent (turn from self to God). The word devil (daimon) means to distribute fortunes. A covetous man who "wants more" has a devil. Covetousness is the idolatrous worship of self. It is an idolatry as evil as falling down before Baal, the Asteroth, the christmas tree, the golden calf, or any one of the ancient pagan deities of Babylon.

Paul said, "having food and raiment, let us be there with content" (I Tim. 6:8). He also said, "I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content." (Phil. 4:11).

Men, myself included, are involved in idolatry when they refuse to be content with what they have. Their hearts cry out, "I want more."

um, that's planting a tree & it's not the same as taking it into your house & decorating it -
the quote in Jeremiah is pretty specific & detailed and it IS what people
do at Christmas.

So if anything, that looks like searching for loopholes while ignoring something specific.
