what if we ask that those opening a teaching thread to mark it as "Teaching" in the same way that prophesy threads are marked.
that way the threads would at least be easier to find.

Sometimes the various tags seem almost like painting a big red bullseye on the thread, essentially saying "come disrupt me."
Not saying it's not a good idea, I think it is. We just seem to have some posters who take sport at thread disintegration.

yes, but now we have that lovely rule back about 'disrupting the forum'...
so if someone should try to disrupt a teaching thread (for instance) by going beyond a reasonable Q and A plus a follow-up question and dragging the teaching into open debate, the above rule could be cited.
The debating posts could be streamed off into another thread, (they make lovely OP's) and the equilibrium of the teaching thread could be restored. right??
in other words the same thing that would be done in real life. if someone is disrupting a class they are invited to take their arguements elsewhere, order is restored, and the teaching continues.

The portion of the fsg's that I copied here is actually a matter of interpretation. Some, but definitely not all, well recognized SF/PC groups would agree with it. Others would say that office of prophet, when speaking, may be operating in not only word of knowledge/word of wisdom.. but also possibly in the gifts of prophecy, discerning of spirits, tongues/interpretation, etc.
I'm not sure who/when that was added in, but personally, I think it is far too narrow in it's scope.

"All teaching, discussion, and debate threads should be started in the Debate subforum. Threads that become teaching, discussion, or debate threads will be moved there by staff."
This would keep the main forum as fellowship-only. Some forums use this model very happily. This would make members go to the Debate subforum for any teaching, which can be annoying. But it would neatly separate the fellowship threads from the non-fellowship threads. And very seldom will there be teaching threads that do not have some discussion/debate involved, especially when you have believers with such differences of opinion on doctrine. If you do this, I would suggest we request a forum name change, so that it is clear that the subforum is for teaching as well.
It needs to be uncomplicated, and if we allow teaching threads in the fellowship area - they will likely turn into debate and then staff have to move the thread anyway.

When are some rules going to be formulated for this particular forum?
As it stands now, we have nothing there but the site wide congregational rules, and it has been like this few quite a few months now. Would someone at least go through the list here and piece something together temporarily for us, or if that is just too much, repost the old rules so we don't have discussions that are not relevant to our particular forum??
