I certainly don't see the harm in showing children that when two people love each other they are prepared to commit themselves and do it legally if they so choose.

What you don't seem to understand is that marriage being only between a man and woman is completely up for debate and peoples right to happiness cannot be trumped by other peoples personal religious beliefs. I mean not even all Christians think homosexuality is wrong and there are many non-Christians lives to consider too.
Government/Religion should be entirely separate, they have no business promoting any morality other than the sensible "do not hurt others". Children learning about other families out there is not a bad thing if it leads them to be more loving and accepting of those different from themselves. I'm going to be a parent in a same-sex family in the future, I don't want our children to suffer from lack of acceptance at school when it can and should be a non issue (fortunately in the UK its part of the normal curriculum in a lot of schools now).

Schools always get parental consent for field trips. |

I vaguely remember going on them randomly when I was a kid without any letter or consent.

I pay tax dollars to help those schools operate, and if I homeschool, I don't get a tax break. Neither I or my wife have the energy to homeschool, as we have 5 kids. I'll just have to monitor what they learn, and correct any mistakes at home.

Yes, gov and religion should be separate but schools don't take field trips to regular weddings, why should they take trips to gay weddings? That's sick! This is indoctrination. This is this teacher's probably one and only chance to force gay education into the curriculum. That kind of stuff should be taught at home, whether gay or not, and not done by the shool system. Stick to english, math, science, history, etc. Leave the moral education, whether it's Biblical or immoral, to the parents. Parents can take their kids to a gay wedding if they want, it's not for the schools to do that.

If it wasn't a school sponsored thing... it doesn't matter. What people do with their own time, money and children has nothing to do with the state or state funded schools.
The answer to that was posted already. Originally Posted by Andreusz A parent suggested the trip as a surprise for the teacher, parental consent was asked for, and given in all but two cases ... and those two kids stayed home.
I'm sure this kind of thing has happened before when a teacher has gotten married. I know similar arrangements have been made for school children to attend religious services when a student or teacher has died.
Should a state-sponsored school allow that? | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
