The problem is not with the current rules.

The problem is with some of the OBOB members and some non-Catholic guests who either blatantly ignore the rules or ignore the spirit of the rules.

You are not being muzzled. You can post your thoughts and opinions against Catholicism in the appropriate CF sub-forums. When in OBOB, you should be respectful of our faith space. In no other denominational forum has a denomination been so trashed as in OBOB. Try what you are doing in the Baptist Forum and see where it gets you and how fast.

I do understand your point but since these are FSG's for safe havens particular to a specific group...I think some leeway must be given to that groups identity as long as it is not a flame to others. In a shared area or statement it would be different.
The Catholic Church was simply The Church up until the reformation made it necessary for a distinction. In early Christianity one of our Bishops on his way to martyrism used the term universal (Catholic) to describe the Church.

Two thousand years of history is on our side.

Let's remember here, we are not discussing specific individual quirks or foibles. This is about "Forum Specific Guidelines". If you have an issue with someone in this discussion, please take it somewhere else. Snide comments or remarks is not going to help in the discussion. And I'm not speaking to specific individuals here. This goes for EVERYONE.

Okay, enough said.

I believe we need to change "His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI" to "The Holy See" since popes do change from time to time.

Dear children! Also today I call you, in this time of grace, to pray for little Jesus to be born in your heart. May He, who is peace itself, give peace to the entire world through you. Therefore, little children, pray without ceasing for this turbulent world without hope, so that you may become witnesses of peace for all. May hope begin to flow through your hearts as a river of grace. Thank you for having responded to my call.

Let me ask a question about OBOB's large non-Catholic membership...which right now is practically half of the regular posters, are "members" those who are in full communion with Rome- or just those who like the Church and identify in some way with Her or intend to be in full communion one day?

There is also a problem with Catholics in OBOB who think that they are holier and better than other Catholics, who fail to understand the complexities and nuances of their Faith, and who do NOT have a fundamental understanding of Her teaching, but instead insert their own very narrow opinions about what a Catholic is.

I'd say it's best to leave it as is and simply ammend whenever there's a new Pope. It would be totally justifiable to refer to the Archbishop of Canterbury as the Holy See for example. To specify Pope Benedict would remove any 'wiggle room'.

I'm not really sure why you feel the defend the usage of the term Catholic. I was the one who said it would be helpful and clearer to use it in your forum rules! As I said in the previous post I think anything which reduces confusion and makes the rules as clear as possible must be a good thing when it comes to forum rules. That's all I was suggesting.

Two thousand years of history is on our side.
I didn't realise we were on different sides.

If this is for OBOB, then "Holy See" is totally appropriate as it encompasses ALL Popes past, present and future. If you want to get real specific, then we can say "Vatican Holy See".

Are we debating differences in institutions here or discussing OBOB forum rules ?

It is not like this is CF overall site rules we are talking about, people will understand when they come into the Catholic Forum who we mean when we say "Holy See" and what we are talking about when we state "The Church".
