PastorJim I went to the website like you recomended, most of it was as you said
Right. Because what Catholics consider "evangelism" is not what the Bible describes as evangelism.
Since Catholics believe the Catholic Church has preserved the Gospel and is free from error it makes sense that we would want people to become Catholic once they come to except Jesus as Lord.
I agree. But, as you've already admitted, it was all about recruiting for Catholicism and no preaching of the Gospel.
I was being a little harsh when I said that evangelism to Protestants means recruting people for Protestantism
That's OK. We're used to the constant attacks.
but it makes sense whe Catholics share the Gospel we share a Catholic understanding of the Gospel and when Protestants share the Gospel they share a Protestant understanding of the Gospel.
But why can't Catholics share a Biblical understanding of the Gospel?
I never really liked CatholicAnswers or thier forum very much, OBOB suits me just fine lol.
Me neither. Catholic Answers is about as pagan as pagan can be.

But why can't Catholics share a Biblical understanding of the Gospel?
we do share a Biblical understanding, with Jesus forming a group of people, a Church, not 100 denominations, with Apostles leading that Church and setting up local congregations with presbiters (priests) and deacons. We have a biblical understanding of the Sacrements, with Jesus himself saying that the bread and wine were now His body and blood.
oh my this thread is getting off topic,
The good thing about ChristianForums is that you, as a Catholic, are allowed to say pretty much whatever you want to about us, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to get another string of nasty PMs about my posts about Catholics.
the rules say that I can not call any Christian denomination or Church non-christian, and I did not, i mearly criticised how protestants evangelized, a lot of Protestants get in trouble on this site because they want to say that the Catholic Church is not a Christian church. Well they agreed to the rules, so if they feel that strong about the Catholic Church not being Christian, then they should quit this site. If people do not agree with the views of a social orginization then they should not be part of it, it is dishonest.

No you don't. If you did, then Catholic.com would have an "evangelization" forum filled with Catholics talking about how to present the Gospel with the lost, not how to recruit people into Catholicism.
with Jesus forming a group of people, a Church, not 100 denominations
Oh, here we go. Come on. Bring on the Catholic "30,000 denominations" lie.
Jesus founded one church. There are many denominations within the one church, just as there are 242 sub-groups within Catholicism.
We have a biblical understanding of the Sacrements, with Jesus himself saying that the bread and wine were now His body and blood.
No you don't. You believe that the priests says some magic words over a piece of bread and it turns into Jesus.
the rules say that I can not call any Christian denomination or Church non-christian, and I did not, i mearly criticised how protestants evangelized, a lot of Protestants get in trouble on this site because they want to say that the Catholic Church is not a Christian church.
"Oh, just because I said that Protestantism is a device of the devil to attack the one true church Christ founded doesn't mean I don't think it's Christian".
Well they agreed to the rules, so if they feel that strong about the Catholic Church not being Christian, then they should quit this site.
Meanwhile, Catholics are still allowed to say the things you say about us.

Jesus founded one church. There are many denominations within one church.
I did not pull out the "30,000 denominations" lie, in the Conservative Christian forum we had an interesting thread about Protestantism and someone pointed out the 30,000 denominations myth is a lie, but there are about 7 broad "families" for protestant denominations and inside each denomination family there is considerable differances between some denominations. With disunity between the differant protestant denominations, for example the Calvinist/Arminian split, they do not really seem united in faith since they preach differant things.
Second, what is the difference bewteen saying that the Catholic church is the "one true church that Jesus founded, not Protestantism", that the Catholic church holds the "fullness of the truth, not Protestantism", or that there is no salvation outside of the Catholic church, and saying that we're not Christians? Catholics are allowed to get away with those semantic games.
it is not a game of semantics, I think the Catholic Church has a proper understanding of the Bible, you think the Baptist church has a proper understanding of the Bible. We are both Christians, I recognize that, and so do most Catholics, there are bigots in every group, the wheat and the tares grow side by side. Catholics who are on this site who say Protestants are not Christian, well they should not be on this site either (they are also going agianst Catholic Church teaching if they say Protestants are not Christian)
Not going to go into the "no salvation outside of the Church" thing, it would just derail the thread even more, you can ask about it in OBOB or argue about it in GT if you want.

With disunity between the differant protestant denominations...
But there is no disunity. That's just another lie Catholics tell about us because they know they can't defend their doctrines.
If there is no unity, then please explain why the Deeper Conference last week drew Christians from almost every Christian denomination together in unity to present the Gospel to the lost?
If there is no unity, then why have I, a Baptist pastor, been invited to speak in churches of all sorts of denominations?
Why do we go out and evangelize the lost and refer them to churches of other denominations?
I can walk into any Christian church in this town and be embraced as a brother in Christ. It's only the Catholics who don't consider me a Christian.
We are both Christians, I recognize that
How can we be Christians when your religion claims that we're not a legitimate part of the church and cannot be saved outside of the Catholic church?
they are also going agianst Catholic Church teaching if they say Protestants are not Christian
Then the Catholic church is pretty confused because it's pronounced us to be anathema.
Not going to go into the "no salvation outside of the Church" thing
I don't blame you. If I were you, I wouldn't want to acknowledge it, either.

Oh I acknowlege that there is no salvation outside the Church, I just thought the thread about the Indian Bible would not be the best place for us to go into detail about it.

PastorJim

I see. So then, if we're not saved, how can you say that we're Christians?
I never said you were not saved. please don't put words in my mouth
You said that there is no salvation outside of the Catholic church. We reject your church, it's authority and it's teachings. Thus, we are outside of the Catholic church and unsaved, according to you and the Catholic church.
if you are a Christian then you are in union, though an imperfect union, with the Catholic Church, I assume you were Baptised in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit? there is one Baptism into one Church. there is no salvation outside of the Church... if you want to go more into this please start a thread in GT and we can argue about this or in OBOB where nonCatholics can not argue but can ask questions, this is not the topic of this thread, this thread is about an Indian translation of the Bible that tries to reach Indian people with footnotes explain the faith in ways they can understand it and a few pictures that symbolicly show that Jesus is Lord of all peoples and not just the white Englishmen who colonized them for a few centuries
