Reps: 25 (power: 0) | | | I don't understand how what I said was invalid. I was not meaning to be making a statement about his being in Baghdad; I think that's great. It is great for the troops (who I hope are able to return home safely when the time is right) that's pretty brave, its true.
I do, however, stand behind my lack of understanding about his amount of vacation. I know plenty of people with much less important jobs the president of the US who work 6-7 days a week and take maybe 1 week of vacation a year.

If you want to discuss the President's vacation plans, start a thread about it. You neither complimented the man for his "bravery" nor avowed any lack of "understanding" about his downtime. You simply made a potshot. At least be a big boy and stand your ground... there's a reason the lines, "I'm just sayinnnnn'!!" and "not that there's anything wrong with that!" are jokes. |

Reps: 33,304 (power: 47) | | Good move on his part, I think that will provide a vital boost in morale to the troops.
Though I doubt he was the one to think it up.

Reps: 1,397 (power: 11) | | | I'm sure he was the one who thought it up... presidents tend to be a bit out of touch w/reality and convinced of their own power... so they tend to undertake big security risks more readily. I knew a guy who was Secret Svc under Clinton and they were always being driven up the wall by his ideas for meeting The People, LOL |

heard about the time Clinton was in Prague (?) I think for a meeting, then decided to stroll along the shopping district and wound up in a bar with the Czech President and he gave a saxophone solo to the patrons.
ah well, those halcyon days are long over...
but I'm glad he went over to Iraq for the visit.

A. I believe I did compliment him on his bravery in the post you quoted, I just wanted to clarify a point I did not make in my first post.
B. 'lack of "understanding" about his downtime' I agree with you on this point. I don't have any understanding for his amount of downtime. Being elected President is a 4 year job, with possibility for 1 renewal. You can take a reduction in your vacation time during a period of that length. People do it all the time when getting PhD's, during medical school, residencies, etc. I'm not saying he does not deserve any vacation, but should be more reasonable with it.
C. I don't believe i retreated on any of my points. Besides, people shouldn't be so reluctant to changing their stance on things. That is what being open to dialogue is all about.
I apologize to all for this post, I just felt I needed to respond. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
