As Jesus is the way, the Truth, and the life, I would ask the readership. Did Jesus ever pray for the sick? If not, then how did He heal them and shouldn't we do the same thing that the disciples were doing to heal the sick?

Luke 11:20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.
Luke 13:32....Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures....
There is a scripture which says.. the prayer of faith saves the sick.. and we are told to pray always.. with all kinds of prayers and requests..
James 5:15
And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

You bring up an interesting point. Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the Father are one and agree as one, so he probably didn't pray like we do today. He most likely commanded the Healing and it happened. Jesus was in-tune with the Holy Spirit and instinctively knew what, who and when to pray for something.
The Lord didn't tell us to ask him for healing, but said to simply go out and heal others.
Matthew 10:[7] And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.[8] Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
Mark 16:[17] And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils... they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."
A case in point between these two phrases in Mark 16- one doesn't ask devils to leave in Jesus' name. You command it. Same goes for healing. Jesus gave us the authority to do these things in His name, not ask for it necessarily. If he gave us power and authority to do these things, then why should we have to ask him for it? Although, sometimes it wouldn't hurt to do both, depending on the situation. Of course, being led by the Spirit always puts you in the right situation. For example, if the Holy Spirit says a certain person has unforgiveness, then you'll need to lead that person to forgive so they can receive their healing. Once that person forgives, then you can command the healing. Or, sometimes the healing comes automatically, especially if the infirmity originated with unforgiveness.
Curses resulting from sins of the past or from ancestral curses coming down the family line may also cause a person's infirmity. Once the curse is broken, then a person may receive their healing, or a situation changes in their life for the better.
When you look at it and then see how most churches take 'prayer requests' for the sick it helps you understand why few are ever healed.
If the church would pick up the sword given to it and accept the authority that Christ gave us and command instead of take 'prayer requests' just think how things would change!
What do you think is holding churches back? Do they not know about it, or are they afraid? I've thought about this alot lately and I'm not sure myself as to why we accept sickness quietly when we 'were' healed by His stripes and given the authority to be well.

Reason: oops....double post! My internet is horrible and lags.....I guess I double clicked :)
Actually, an exorcism(deliverance) happened during Sunday service last week. Someone began to manifest and members took care of it right there on the spot. Manifestations happen more often when the presence of God is strong, especially after praise and worship. We're starting to experience more of the Holy Spirit during church service, especially after recently doing spiritual warfare power walks around the neighborhood- praying and binding up the devil and his strongmen over the area. It's starting to have an effect.
In answer to your question regarding why the church has essentially become ineffective, one word: "Apostacy"
Here's a church newsletter that may help answer your question:
I suppose the only thing singular about healing is that it is done by God. I have heard of people getting healed without even seeking it. In one testimony a brother received a lung and everything and he wasn't even seeking healing, but God had mercy on him.
Before I learnt the exorcism process that I now use, I accidentally delivered someone from demonic oppression. It still makes me smile to think about how it happened.
The Holy Spirit was really strong on me and I could feel him like electricity all over me, especially my hands. The pastor of the church I was visiting said by word of knowledge that a woman was ready to be delivered.
A woman went to the alter and two men were praying for her. I didn't think it was proper that no other woman was present with her and as I was only a couple of feet away I stepped forward and put my hand on top of her head. She let out a really loud scream and fell over completely out on the floor. I think I was as surprised as she was.
When you read how Jesus mainly healed, it was casting out of demons and I've discovered that it is very effective and the healings are usually instant. Also, anyone who is filled with the Holy Spirit can cast out a demon which is also a plus. When you couple exorcism with several other gifts like discernment it becomes really effective. I can actually feel the demon moving in people and see the faces of demons in the shadows on the person I"m delivering.
The sad thing about deliverances is the ignorance of those who do them. If I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have stopped at the first demon that was up in that woman. I know now how to make them leave and could have really blessed the woman instead of confusing us both...(lol)
Apostasy is widespread right now, I sometimes wonder if it isn't part of the great falling away. But then the bible says many are called, but few chosen, so who am I to say.....?
1simus,
I like what you said about your Dad. My dad also has the gift of healing and so do I. Your hands will feel warm when you pray for someone and I think I received this gift when I went to a Charles and Frances Hunter meeting years ago to be on one of their teams. IT was pretty cool......commanding things in Jesus name does work pretty good and I'm seeking God on how to properly use the gift.
