Proverbs 15 has an interesting phrase - "the light of the eyes".
Proverbs 15:30 The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, And a good report makes the bones healthy.
What does this mean? In Matthew he that has a good eye is one who is generous. But what about "light"? What do you say? I'd like to glean from the wisdom of my WoF family.
That was NKJV, other versions say >
30 A cheerful look brings joy to the heart;
good news makes for good health. NLT
30 Bright eyes gladden the heart;
Good news puts fat on the bones. NASB
30 A cheerful look brings joy to the heart,
and good news gives health to the bones. NIV
30 Bright eyes cheer the heart;
good news strengthens the bones. HCS

Second, practice your religion without adulterating it or toning it down. Third, emphasize love and make it your working force, for love is central in Christianity. Fourth, study the non-Christian religions more sympathetically to find the good that is within them in order to have a more sympathetic approach to the people.”
Doesn't a father sometimes refer to a child as "The light of my eyes"? And don't we say to a child when speaking of the time long ago before they were even expected; "Before you were a twinkle in your Daddy's eye"?
So, gazing with affection on someone we treasure is light to our eyes and brings joy.
The part about good news fattening the bones also caught my attention because of a dream I had last night, so thanks for posting the verse Cindy.
Thank you for your response. Those are good considerations, yet wanting a deeper understanding I researched a little and found another idea in light of other scriptures.
It could be the joy we have in seeing the things the Lord has created. Ecclesiastes 11:7 The light is pleasant, and it is good for the eyes to see the sun.
This is taken from John Gill's exposition of the Bible.
Objects seen by the light of the eyes, as green gardens, flowing rivers, pleasant meadows, rising hills, lowly vales, herbs, plants, trees, birds, beasts, and creatures of every kind, especially light itself beheld rejoiceth the heart, and particularly that grand luminary and fountain of light, the sun.
How much more does our heart rejoice when we see with our spiritual eyes, the eyes of our understanding. Ephesians 1:17 [For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him, 18 By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones),
How wonderful especially to know the Lord Jesus, and to know the hope He's called us to! Jesus is the Sun of righteousness Himself, risen with healing in His wings. How wonderful to know the riches of His grace extended to such a sinner as I was, and now to be made righteous as He is! How wonderful to have his holy Word, and to be given understanding of it that we may wield it as a mighty weapon, and yet come to it for comfort and instruction!
The eyes of our understanding opened, or if you will, the light of our eyes, truly rejoices the heart. What gives light, which is the hope we have in His promise, gives relief from anxiety and thereby rejoices the heart.

I can't help but remember back in 2001, when my then 20-year-old daughter had invited the Holy Spirit in to fill her. She began to act out in bizarre ways and as she was living and working at a Christian retreat center, we had to go and pick her up and bring her home for help. We sent her to a deliverance ministry we are familiar with, and know the people who run it. She was gone for six weeks. When she returned, the moment she walked into our home, I saw the difference---in her eyes!
Her eyes had been dulled before with the demonic, and her facial expressions were loose and dull. I remember that several times I had to speak to her about her facial expressions and how blank they were. When she walked back into our home freed of demonic oppression, her eyes were BRIGHT!! It was so noticeable I had to gasp! in fact to this day as she is free and serving God, I have never noticed that same dullness of expression since!
Jesus, as resident in us, indeed does brighten our countenance and His light shines out through those windows!

So the light in her eyes rejoices your heart! Thanks for sharing that. That adds a new take on it, and I believe it fits every bit as much. Oh, how I love God's Word.
What a great testimony. My son too was delivered from demons. Praise God, praise God! I praise Him for what He did for your daughter and my son.
