I have made steady forays from punk into electronica. This video is very challenging to those of faith. It is about the ultimate loss of one's family and holding God responsible...with much bitter refrain. I also have a crush on this actress in the video for some reason.
heh. I *heart* Wolfsheim and have for many years. I think what is very interesting about that song ~ Once in a Lifetime ~ is that when I hear it, I always contrast it with the first single Wolfsheim ever had - The Sparrows & The Nightengales (which, as a side note, was covered by the Christian band Echoing Green). I'd always taken the Sparrows & The Nightengales to be a very faith-affirming song about God. It just makes me wonder... what happened?

The days grow short,
the nights are gone
Since you were here,
I can't go on
I cried for you,
to no avail
Now my life runs cold
when the night winds wail
But I cheat the hangman,
cheated him many times before
The bell that tolls the hour
has turned sweet lips to sour
Yes, I cheat the hangman
and even when life has flown away
I leave a kiss behind
The rain that fell
upon my stone
Like tears you cry
I shared alone
I walk the night,
I cannot sleep
The love you spend
you cannot reap
But I cheat the hangman,
cheated him many times before
The bell that tolls the hour
has turned sweet lips to sour
Yes, I cheat the hangman
and even when life has flown away
I leave a kiss behind
The glow of love will shine
Lighted windows stare
at the lonely stranger there
returning home
Only lighted windows stare
at the lonely stranger there
returning home
