Are there any good books for beginniners for photoshop, or is it one of those - just do it - things to learn.

No, I'm not suggesting you steal it, as so many people do. I'm suggesting an open-source (free) alternative that does more than most people will ever want to do.
If you think it might be limited in what it can do, check out some YouTube tutorials with GIMP.
I don't think I'd take Photoshop back if it was free. BTW, Photoshop can still do some things GIMP can't. It's just that I don't need any of that stuff.
I don't own ps either but I use free editing programs that work just fine, but some photos don't need editing... there are very few that I take that don't need any touch ups lol.
