Reps: 5,181 (power: 16) | | | OOC: Tada! New character! (Do you realize this will be my SIXTH game that's currently going? You owe me one, missy...)
IC:
Jacen had been working on his latest project, a sort of wheel that could use the water from the river and use it to run the mill, when the fire came. He had been rather proud of this project and had expected it to be quite useful. He knew his father disapproved him using materials for his experiments, but Jacen knew that this one would be different. If he could just get it to work, the productivity of the current mill would rise tremendously. He was working so diligently that he didn’t notice the screams from outside. Now if he could just get these boards aligned right, it would cause the wheel to produce more power for the force of water required to go against them.
He stopped for a moment and sniffed the air. Was something burning? He looked up and quickly jumped up when he noticed that the roof of their shop was completely engulfed in flames.
“Jacen! Get out of there!” his mother screamed from the doorway before running out to join a bucket team that had already gathered to help put out the fire. He quickly got up and started to leave then paused. How could he leave all his work in here to burn? A section of the roof fell to prove that he didn’t have time to think about it. He grabbed an armful of plans then dashed out of the shop coughing.
He quickly put down the plans hoping that they wouldn’t get stepped on or otherwise destroyed and went to join the bucket team. He hoped they didn’t blame this fire on him again. He knew that this time it really wasn’t his fault. How was he supposed to know that that mixture of the tanner’s chemicals and the physician’s medicine would be that flammable? As he quickly passed the buckets, he heard a loud scream.
It was Bronwen. He wanted to leave the line and see what had happened to her, but he was unfortunately stuck. He was able to see out the people enough that he could see her sitting on the ground crying. Her grandmother and friend Kaylie were their comforting her. He wished he were there with them. Suddenly, he felt raindrops. It quickly put out the flames that had been engulfing the houses. Jacen signed and put down his bucket with relief. What a blessing! That rain couldn’t have come at a better time! He saw Bronwen, Kaylie, and Heulwyn rise and walk off together. Jacen wanted to join them when his father stopped him.
“Jacen, we have a lot of work to do to,” he said soberly.
Jacen looked past him and saw his designs sitting in the road getting soaked and dirtied with mud. “Oh no,” he said and quickly snatched them up. “May I go see Bronwen? She seemed very upset about something.”
His father walked with him to their shop. “Did you not see?”
Jacen quickly went inside and found a dry place to put the plans. “See what?” He didn’t like the solemn tone of his father.
“Garan, Bronwen’s grandfather, was lost in the fire. If you think you can comfort her, by all means go.”
Jacen was quiet for a long moment. He didn’t know what to say or even think. Someone he had known for so long… suddenly gone? He couldn’t even imagine the pain that Bronwen must be going through at the moment. He glanced at his father and quickly ran out the door towards Bronwen’s house. If there were anything that he could do, he would do it.
Jacen quickly went in when he got there, which wasn’t abnormal since the people of Cian Asling were very trusting of one another. He was going to call her name when he heard her say softly, “What must I do?” Jacen was curious and stayed quite a moment to see if he could find out what was going on.
“You must journey to find your name,” Heulwen said. “There is a prophet, who lives in the mountains. Go there. Perhaps he may help you. I love you,” there was a pause, “Rhian.”
Jacen was confused. Rhian? His curiosity got the best of him and he opened the door. The two women looked at him in surprise. Bronwen was holding a gold necklace with a teardop shaped pendent.
“Uh… I heard what happened and thought I might…” he suddenly felt very embarrassed as if he had come into the middle of something that wasn’t meant for his eyes. “But I’ll come back when it’s a better time I guess.” He quickly turned and started to leave.

Reps: 12,417 (power: 24) | | | "Jacen," said Bronwen as she stood. She paused for a moment looking as though she might cry again then went forward and embraced him. She stepped back and looked at her two childhood friends. They had been best friends for as long as she could remember. "I have something to tell you." she said. She told them the whole story, just as Heulwen had told it to her. "And now I have to leave. I will miss both of you so much. Please remember that I love both of you."

Reps: 5,181 (power: 16) | | | Jacen felt as if he had just been swept up and taken to heaven as Bronwen embraced him. He knew it didn’t mean anything, but it still meant so much to him. The moment ended all too quickly and she began to tell about how she was going to leave the town. She started crying as she said goodbye. "I love you both," she said. The words seemed to stab him. He couldn't just let her slip away like this. He knew that she had meant it simply in friendship and that she would never care for him any other way, but the words reminded him of how much he cared for her. She wasn't going to leave in to the unknown, alone and so vulnerable.
“Wait a minute! You’re not leaving without us!” Jacen said firmly. “You’ll need people of intelligence to help you in this journey, uh, quest… thing. You can’t just run out there without any protection or anything! I mean, it’s just not smart!” He suddenly became aware of how quickly he had responded and what he had actually said. He hadn’t ever left the village and really wasn’t prepared to go in anyway. Still, that didn’t stop him from firmly believing what he said. She wasn’t going alone, even if he had to run after her on foot.

| | | | "Hes rite your not going alone, no way. So if you dont want us along you'll have to tie us up in chains and lock me in a celler" Kaylie said quickly, she wasn't about to let her go alone. Kaylie and Bronwen had been like sisters when they were little, she was very protective of Bronwen still.

Reps: 12,417 (power: 24) | | | Bronwen smiled then gave a fake sigh, "Well I guess there's no getting rid of you guys." She looked at her two best friends. The three of them were so different. Kaylie, bold and slightly eccentic with the silver circlet she wore in her hair; Jacen, witty and quiet, and sometimes very odd; and her...Rhian... beautiful and opinionated, but loyal to the death. She slipped the pendant around her neck. "You must now call me Rhian." She then turned to Heulwen. She gave the women a hug. They held each other for a while then Heulwen kissed her on the cheek. She looked as though she was about to cry again but she turned and began bustling about the kitchen.
"Now we have to find you some supplies." she said.
About an hour later the three friends stood outside the cottage laden with supplies. "Travel east to the mountains. Perhaps you will find a guide along the way to help you to the prophet. Be careful you three" Heulwen said. And they began their journey.
