If a person was born into a family that was not Jewish, and was say, 18 when his parents converted to Judaism... is he a Jew too? Or am I being silly thinking that he would be because of lineage at this point...

Yes. If his mother is Jewish (whether converted or born Jewish), then when he is born, he is a Jew, no matter what. If she converts after he is born, he must also convert to become a Jew.

Yes he is; if his mother is Jewish he is a born Jew and will
always remain a Jew, no matter what religion he is raised in
or how old he is when he discovered his mother is Jewish.
