Great Lion of God by Taylor Caldwell. It's a novel of Paul's life and man is it ever
spectacular. It puts you back in that time so vividly, it describes the political situations of the time and how they affected all of the people, the Jews, the Romans. the Greeks, the wealthy , the poor. IT shows how Rome ruled, it also vividly describes the culture, the food, the religions; ANd what she does with Jesus, how she shows the impact He had on the people of the time, it's so moving- you feel as though you are there. I can' t recommend it highly enough. Apparently this book spent 8 months on the NY times bestseller list when it was released 33 years ago.
I also read Great and Glorious Physician (it might be Dear and Glorious Physicain-sorry I forget) by the same author and it is a novel of Luke's life. THe writing syle is very similar and it is also a wonderful book. I tore through it LITERALLY! accidentally broke the spine on the book and it fell apart!
These are older books, written in early 70's.
The great thing is, you can almost surely find these books in a second hand shop for avery reasonable price.
If anyone knows of any other historical biblical fiction by Caldwell or anyone else that is well written and biblically accurate, please let me know!
