Is there an Iraqi military? One run by actual Iraqi generals and such? The oil? Fine, that's important, but the fact that those air bases will stay in the middle east until the day our nation falls is the most important part, it means we have a middle eastern jump-off point OTHER than Israel for a change. That means a ton in a strategic sense, things have actually gotten better in Iraq, people just refuse to see it that way. There's no way for a war like this not to be ugly.
So your point is that it's good we're going to continue to occupy Iraq so we can launch more wars in the Middle East without exposing Israel to retaliation? That means a ton in a strategic sense, things have actually gotten better in Iraq, people just refuse to see it that way. There's no way for a war like this not to be ugly.
Better than when? Not before the invasion, surely. They still don't have consistent public safety, clean water, electricity, medicine, transportation - what we take for granted.

The blockage is most likely emotional, possibly based on fear, and one does not most effectively deal with emotional barriers by using facts as instruments of assault and battery. - Dan Murphy |

Oh... so "operation iraqi freedom" was about slaughtering hundreds of thousands of iraqi civilians, overthrowing a sovereign nation without provocation, and spending hundreds of billions of tax dollars... So we get more air bases in a place other than Israel?
... niiiiice. That's totally worth trashing our economy and losing our constitutional rights.
... So... bush served 8 years... Did he actually accomplish anything during that time? Anyone know of ANYTHING positive?

Hopefully the Iraqis will somehow rise up and free their country of all foreign aggressors.

Reps: 10 (power: 0) | | | Yes. You can use "defense" as a Christian excuse for the insurgents. But the vast majority of innocent blood spilled, will not fall under the "defense" category. War is horrible, murder & death are a consequence of War.
Jesus Christ tells us to love our enemies. How can we do this if we are sending our soldiers TO foreign countries so the insurgents can hide behind their innocents? I'm not against defending our country...I am against innocent bloodshed (on either side) by offensive war.
We could do a lot better by dropping billions of bibles than dropping bombs. |

My Mood | | | He who lives to create enemies; shall never be free of enemies. The US would have done well to stop creating the conditions for terrorism to flourish. The more people you make hate you; then the more people will be willing to fight you even if it means they will die trying. |

No... an extremist nation that selfishly takes whatever it wants through violence and threats of violence doesn't get "what it wants" through peace. But, such a nation is by very definition a terrorist nation. Which is what we've been for the past 8 years. Hopefully that is ending.
