Military forces are supposed to END conflict, not keep it going as long as possible simply because they make money the longer they kill. Contractors like Haliburton are NOT supposed to waste as much money as they can so that WE get to foot the bill.... Meanwhile... while I'm paying for a new truck, I can't afford health insurance for myself. So, if I get sick... I get to declare bankruptcy.
No... "America" isn't making jack on the war. We're dumping money into a few military contractors hand over foot. But those contractors are making an amount of money I don't even want to guess at.
Blackwater contractors with special forces background on par with navy SEALs make about 200k a year, tax free. I'm going to Iraq for the first time in december, went to Afghanistan last year, and we all [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth] about the contractors. Loose cannons who are nothing more than a liability and do nothing to encourage a positive American image in the middle east. Our Soldiers/Airmen/Marines/Sailors do the best they can, but at the end of the day it isn't up to us how this war turns out.

Well put! They go over and antagonize people who are already "a bit unstable"... they associate blackwater with the real military.... the real military takes the casualties.
The thing about the war is we're fighting ourselves. The tax payers take the hit in the wallet, and our military pays with their lives and limbs. We're up to... what... 150K seriously wounded?
"The insurgants" aren't a terrorist sect... they're individual people who get [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth]ed off enough to fight back. Pretend a few mexicans attacked china... china responds by overthrowing America, killing and killing 13 million americans (4.4% of our population, the same percentage as the dead iraqis)
... now if YOU saw that, and YOU saw chinese troops driving down your neighborhood streets shooting up cars at random... wouldn't YOU go out and defend your country as futile as it may be? Attacking whomever you could regardless of if it was chinese contract killers or their real military? Wouldn't you just blame the whole group since they're working together?
.... is that not comparable to what you've seen? ... only iraq and the US instead of the US and China?

The problem with the American public is that they have not experienced war in their own land. 911 cannot compare to what the Iraqis have to put up with. Heck if I had invading foreign soldiers in my country shooting people; I would do more than shoot back at them!!!!!

I'd be out there shooting them too, which is why we try to do good things for the populace over there to show them our intentions. Groups like Blackwater screw that up. Of course the media doesn't want to report the positive stuff, like how we rebuild schools, women can be teachers and doctors now, the food and medical supplies/services we provide... Nope, nothing positive at all.

I'm sure positive news would be welcome also.... But we get plenty of that from the media.
"YAY! WE'RE WINNING!" "We still haven't given up!" "We're fighting for freedom!, w0ot!" "The iraqis love us so much now because we're killing all the bad guys... 'bad guys' being defined as the ones we kill. Therefore there have been absolutely no casualties, because if we haven't killed them, they love us!" "weeeeeee."
... No, it's not all bad news... but a lot of people are ACTUALLY claiming that there have been less than 1,000 casualties in the war. We're actually being told that those people who are shooting back at us aren't really iraqis... they're just random arabs who hate freedom... no other reason. It couldn't possibly be people futily defending their homes. We're told that the Iraqi people LOVE america for "freeing" them...
I'm all for real good news... But this crap about this war being a huge success is a blatant lie. It's offensive that they think we'd believe that "it was all worth it."
We've spent hundreds of billions of dollars, killing over a million people who did nothing to us, overthrew a soverign government without provocation, and with no solid reasoning against the will of the rest of the world. And after we've given the rest of the world the finger for the last half-decade, we suddenly realize... hey... our military's exhausted. All of our troops have already served their terms... some a few times over. 30,000+ of whom have come back wounded.
And what's the positive... what have we accomplished? We've killed some brown people. Are the terrorists less angry now? Do you really think we can scare them off with threats of death? Why do you think they intentionally do suicide bombs instead of firing from a safe distance... it's not about winning... they get to heaven if they die fighting... So do we REALLY think threatening them with such a death is an effective way to stop the blood shed?
How stupid is america?

It is obvious to all except the willingly blind that Bush linked 9/11 terrorism to Sadam Hussein. He and Cheney & Co. tried everything they could to connect Sadam Hussein to Al Qaida, even though they knew that SH was a sworn enemy to Al Qaida. He had to be, because the US would not have financed him to fight the Iranians otherwise.
In fact 9/11 was fabricated to allow the US to invade Afghanistan to capitalise on the drug crops there to finance the coming war in Iraq. Iraq was always the goal, at least the first one. Iran is the next. Then Bush & Co. will have all the oil they want in the Middle East. (Reported quote from a US oil barron: "How did our oil get under Middle East sand?"). That just leaves the Black Sea states and Russia. Mmmm... now if we can just get Georgia to start a war....
America doesn't need to worry about separation of church and state. American Christians have been very effectively brainwashed into believing that USA is a Christian nation with a Christian government. This is in spite of the fact that USA is comparable to pre-war Germany in it's military build-up and conduct in international affairs.
How many military bases do you think the US has worldwide on non-US soil? America hasn't fought a war in defence of US soil since WWII.
God bless the Great American Empire!

I'm not here to debate the morality of the war, because to be honest I could really care less when it comes to morality being in politics. But don't discount that we have made strides in Iraq. The fighting isn't really too intense anymore, and the Iraqi military has stepped up and does the vast majority of the legwork with United States logistics support. The oil? Fine, that's important, but the fact that those air bases will stay in the middle east until the day our nation falls is the most important part, it means we have a middle eastern jump-off point OTHER than Israel for a change. That means a ton in a strategic sense, things have actually gotten better in Iraq, people just refuse to see it that way. There's no way for a war like this not to be ugly.
