typical liberal reaction to positive news. turn your face away so you don't have to acknowledge the positive work of our troops and policies and run away. Shameful failure to admit that our troops are doing a great job and are in no need of retreat.
The good news is now so obvious that they've even discovered it at the Washington Post--We're winning in Iraq!
THERE'S BEEN a relative lull in news coverage and debate about Iraq in recent weeks -- which is odd, because May could turn out to have been one of the most important months of the war. While Washington's attention has been fixed elsewhere, military analysts have watched with astonishment as the Iraqi government and army have gained control for the first time of the port city of Basra and the sprawling Baghdad neighborhood of Sadr City, routing the Shiite militias that have ruled them for years and sending key militants scurrying to Iran. At the same time, Iraqi and U.S. forces have pushed forward with a long-promised offensive in Mosul, the last urban refuge of al-Qaeda. So many of its leaders have now been captured or killed that U.S. Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker, renowned for his cautious assessments, said that the terrorists have "never been closer to defeat than they are now."
I am amazed at how much better Iraq is doing now. I think Robert Gates and General Petraeus really know what they are doing. With Rumsfield it look like we were going over a cliff. I think the war in Iraq is winding down.
It's got a rough road ahead still, but I agree the point is comming where we can leave Iraq to Iraqies and refocus on Afganistan, the forgoten war.

Came back from my first deployment, Afghanistan, about 5 months ago, things are improving. The media just hasn't been interested in the war since it started to really turn our way, guess the media just doesn't like america.

In Vietnam, through toil and strife, we gave it all, our hearts, our life.
A page in history, a chapter in time; we fought for freedom, yours and mine.
We stayed vigilant through cold and rain, and bear the fatigue, hardship, and pain

I really don't believe it's part of a consious bias, it's about making headlines, gaining market share and selling adverts. Media is a bussiness that wants to make money, people slow down to look at car wrecks... but no one looks twice when everything is flowing as it should.
Sustainability operations like the ones were engaged in ebb and flow... they take the offensive, we take the offensive, that's the sexy stuff that grabs peoples attention.. not water that is running, girls going to school, police keeping crime down... news happens when people don't have water or power, when kids can't go to school, when the Taliban is enforcing it's laws while the government is impotent.

U.S. President Barack Obama said the withdrawal of American combat forces from all Iraqi cities on Tuesday is "an important milestone." Mr. Obama said he expects more violence in Iraq, but that the country will emerge stable and sovereign.
President Obama said more work needs to be done in Iraq, but that important progress has been made.
"The Iraqi people are rightly treating this day as a cause for celebration. This is an important step forward, as a sovereign and united Iraq continues to take control of its own destiny," he said. Linkie to Voice of America story
