It isn’t ‘giving in to sin’ to disagree w/ love & kindness. ‘Giving in to sin’ is speaking w/o love & kindness.

Reps: 26 (power: 0) | | I thought through faith and works, but I think I am mistaken. We are saved through faith alone. All of the others point to a more blessed union with Christ. What do you think? |

For You are the Lord Most High, of great compassion, long-suffering, and very merciful, and You relent at human suffering. O Lord, according to Your great goodness You have promised repentance and forgiveness to those who have sinned against You, and in the multitude of Your mercies You have appointed repentance for sinners so that they may be saved. -Prayer of Manasseh verse 7 (NRSV) To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. Reps: 250 (power: 0) | | | I did not really want to choose any of these options.
We are not saved by any merit of our own works, but simply by the undeserved grace of God through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.
But in practice, they cannot be separated. If you say "faith alone, but then that faith will produce works" - what of the 'faith' of demons? They believe everything I do - and indeed could be said to have more 'faith', in that their knowlege is more certain. But despite this 'faith' they remain in a state of rebellion, and their faith causes them to tremble. An active turning from rebellion to obedience to God, i.e. works, is necessary. But it is not by any merit of this action that we are saved, only by the grace of God.

Amen. "Thus abundantly hath the Church of England vindicated her reformation from all pretence of apostasy from the true, ancient Catholic and Apostolic Church...No new Church was set up; no new articles of faith brought in; no new Sacraments; no new order of Priesthood to minister in holy things... only the old were purged from impurities in doctrine, worship and practice. If we were the Catholic Church before, we are still so, and to better purpose." William Cave, The Unity of the Catholic Church maintained in the Church of England |

Reps: 555 (power: 0) | | | My answer was not really there. I picked "through faith and works", but that's not completely true. I believe that it is faith in Jesus Christ which saves us, but I believe that good works WILL stem from this faith if it is true and sincere. God bless!
In Christ,
~Grace~ |

Reps: 82 (power: 0) | | | I beleive by the grace of God we are shown the truth and convicted in our hearts knowing the truth and beleiving in it and being faithful to it.
Laying off the shackles of old, and free to serve our true master.
Serving our true Master by His righteousness and our works being righteous for they are done by His righteousness not our own, living to serve Him through His love not selfishly living to serve our own.
If our works are done to make us righteous by our righteousness, then it's not of God but ours, if our faith comes from what we obtained by our righteousness to our credit, then it's not of God for we take the credit as if our selves have accomplished it.
Gods grace has saved us, by His righteousness, we have not obtained it by our own righteousness but the righteousness of Him, living faithfully by it, beleiving wholeheartedly in it, and doing His righteous works by the righteousness of Him. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
