Fair enough -But I am still going to honour God's opinion
And I respect that opinion. However, i have yet to see where it specifically says "thou shalt not get a tattoo".. and I'm being serious.
Perhaps you could show me something in regards to taht? Something well-structured and easy to read? Like a verse, yes. That would be nice.
And I'm totally serious... for once...

Tattoos are forbidden under the law. Under the New Covenant it could be different. I think the passage in (deuteronomy? about body mod etc. refers to doing it for pagan worship. Definitely to a Christian content of the tattoos should matter. If you are already a Christian I would suggest not doing it, especially not somewhere that is always visible unless you really really want it because it can affect your job prospects. Since it is not something that you feel God told you to do, you can't really expect Him to overturn the social trends gainst hiring people with visible tattoos for certain jobs. Then again since it is not expressly forbidden in the NT, it might make you approachable to someone in that scene. So a person who came to the Lord with tattoos, may want to get rid of them if they can to distance themselves from that old life, but if the heart is changed and it is going to cost thousands of dollars you don't have to get rid of them.
It seems to fall under the liberty and conscience aspects of the New Covenant to me, excepting this...a Christian is not going to be at piece with getting tattoos that glorify sin, satan, drugs, sex , death etc. The Holy Spirit will let you know that He does not approve, I am certain of that.
I would not recommend any believer getting a tattoo. I think we have better things to do with our time and money than to patronize a tattoo parlor. Again that said I would feel bad if someone came to a church I was attended and felt they were not welcome just because the marks of their past were on the outside where everyone could see them.
There is no suggesting here that somebody who did something in the past that God does not approve of is under any form of condemnation.
Trying to justify what one has done that on the basis that God didn't really mean what He said is another matter altogether.

I was thinking of getting a tattoo, yes. Would it glorify sex, satan, drugs, etc.? No, even if I were an outgoing person, no. I would really regret something like that.
Visible? No. It would have to be somewhere that wouldn't be seen. Not because I'm shy, no. But I have my "professional appearance" to maintain. I can't have anything that shows "outside of my uniform", so nothing on face or hands, and any part of the wrist that is not covered by the long sleeves of a uniform. Regulations, regulations.
I'm in the Navy by the way. I'm not saying we should all get tattoos, but I just haven't really seen anything specific against tattoos, except for maybe one or two verses... and even then, I dunno. I'd have to read them.
Of course, I have priorities. I'm saving all my money for plane tickets, so I can finally see my family back home after these past four months of being in the military (first boot camp, then A school... 5 months when I get out, actually.) And my family means more to me than anything, save God.
1. God
2. Family
3. Friends
4. Miscellaneous (priorities vary according to circumstances, such as tattoos or even just lunch vs getting homework done.)

There are only a few verses that prohibit murder as well. I do think it falls under Christian liberty, but intimacy with God is all about the heart. Doing things because they glorify God in some way is always going to be a blessing. The Navy can be a pretty tough place. Lot's of brothers through think and thin type things. Do they still sing 'Proud to be an American' at the weekly assemblies during basic? You should seek God for yourself on the matter. No one here can do other than show you Scripture and offer opinions. Prayerfully seeking to understand why you are even considering it will probably yield some fruit. As I said the OT verse about it hinge on the fact that it was the practice of the pagans. But now if no one is going to see it except you then what is the motive? I'm just saying I have thought about getting tattoos before. This is supposed to be the anti-tattoo club and I do agree it is better not to, in my opinion your body belongs to the Lord (Bible says so in Corinthians) so asking him what to do with it might not be a bad way to go. At any rate that is your business.
Lord,
Sometimes these things can seem so trivial, we pass them by with little thought. I ask that you would help this young sailor know You better through his tattoo inquiry and whatever other fancy he might have along the way. I pray You strengthen his faith in You and give him opportunity to exercise it, a clever witness, and a bold teacher when the dross is removed. A day of decision from behind the uniform.

In Jesus Name Amen.
Umm.. well.. yah... but I've actually seen those "verses" specifically mentioned. Not to mention it's a little obvious that murder is.. well... wrong.
I just want to see the verse, in full context. Mainly because I'm curious now.
Anyone got it on hand?

Leviticus 19:28 'You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead, nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves; I am the Lord'
Google is a wonderful thing. You'll have to russle up your own groceries from here kid, as befits one called to teach.
Your post is bordering on an attack of the rules. We do follow rules around here. Was there somewhere in any of the posts where a person said we should follow the law. It is the righteous requirement of the law that we must still fulfill. That can be summed up in not doing anything out of selfish ambition, and certainly the cult of pain that is body mod is not motivated by a Christian worldview.
