Redwall: Fall of the Abbey

Catava followed, soon passing Gale in her fear that they wouldn't reach the pond in time. She fairly ran to the passageway the Abbot had told her about, flung open the door, and beckoned the others through.

First Gale, then Teo followed Catava through the hidden postern. It was unlikely anybeast would be able to find it unless that beast knew what it was looking for.

They reached the other side, and began their escape to Salamandastron.

For the first half-hour or so, the little group walked in silence. Catava fairly ran, hurrying away from the abbey lest she see it and turn back. Once it was out of sight, she slowed down. Now it was safe to think.

She had never been outside the abbey, she realized, save for a short period when she was just a dibbun. After Rose found her and brought her inside, she had never left. It wasn't until now that she realized that may not have been such a good thing. There was something about the forest--the tall, ancient trees, the thick carpet of fallen leaves, the possibility of danger around the next bend--that made her feel so...alive!

By sundown, Catava had almost forgotten why they were out in the forest in the first place.

Rakshun followed them, not completely understanding what Teo said, but not wanting to stick around and meet some new "friends".

Jesir heard a small group walking, and slither just out of sight, and watched in silence.

I'm back, amazed right?

The sun set a red disk in the gray sky, barely visible through the darkened storm clouds. Thunder rumbled as the small group made its way through the Mossflower woods.

Assuming it wise to remain close to a source of water, they had followed the river that wound its way through Mossflower.

Gale wasn't in the most positive of moods.Rakshun seemed to be focusing on the current situation. Catava appeared almost unaffected by it all; staring around at the trees, as if she had never seen a forest before. Teo, as usual, was silent and expressionless. Gale wondered what the otter thought about. Soon enough, he found himself thinking about Teo's strange accent. Gale had never heard an otter speak with a dialect other than that of the otters of Redwall.

Gale left the matter alone, deciding to stop, as the sun sank into the horizon, "We are a fair good distance from the abbey. I think we should stop for the night, and plan our next move, considering the fact that we have no idea what we're doing."

Gale's statement brought Catava back to the situation at hand. They were out in the forest because they wanted to save the abbey. She nodded, but couldn't help smiling in agreement when Gale said they had no idea what they were doing.

She sat down on a nearby rock. Questions ran through her mind: How far is Salamandastron? Does anyone know the way? Do other beasts live in the forest? However, the question that made it to her lips was,

"What are we going to do about food?"

Rakshun sat down on a log next to the river. "Maybe we should look around for some berry bushes." He suggested.

Jesir wacthed the group impatiently, when was one going to walk away alone? He would strike then.
Then Jersir saw the one with the sword, the sword of martin.
"Yessss," He said in serpentine tounge. "That issss the warrior of Redwall." He flicked out his tounge and tasted them from a distence. They was a otter taste and the taste of mouse, only a handfull, though if he attacked immeditly he could get hurt. He would have to wait for his chance to make himself known.

"I don't see many berry bushes, though." Catava knew there were probably some nearby--given her luck, that was probably the case--but she was too tired from walking all day to look for them. She glanced at the river. "Anyone up for fishing?"
