Reps: 2,512 (power: 13) | | Ice cores I personally don't believe the earth or it's inhabitants have only been around 6K years. For those who believe the earth is roughly 6K years or 10K years old, have you ever read about ice core dating? Basically we can extract large tubes of ice from the polar caps and analyze them...we can see "rings" which stand for annual snowfall.
They also use other dating methods as you go farther back in time since the ice gets compressed and the rings are no longer visible. Scientists have dated ice cores in the tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of years.
Just thought this would be an interesting discussion.
I edited my message because I wanted to post a link to a site that explains what I'm talking about in better detail.
This link is an article on ice core dating from Manchest University: http://www.doc.mmu.ac.uk/aric/gccsg/3-3-2-3.html

I do not know much about Ice Cores but when I was taking my Bios for Majors. in undergrad we had an American Indian skulls we were studying in one of my sections in the 1400 levels somwhere-anyway, the skull was dated 9-11Ky. Also the American Indian did not just pop on the scene they are Asains who migrated over Beringa as the last Ice age was receeding. So while first man and first woman were over in the garden of Eden deciding if they should bite the apple as the magical snake instructed, Indians were "celebrating" at least 3,000 years on the North American Continent.

Yes, a little bit. I have a "naughty" streak. It goes back to my days in parochial school, it is a bit tongue in cheek .

Yes, and I don't but it: But how, exactly, are these layers counted? Obviously, at the surface the layers are easy to count visually – and in Greenland the layers are fairly easily distinguished at depths as great as 1,500 to 2,000m. Even here though, there might be a few problems. How does one distinguish between a yearly layer and a sub-yearly layer of ice? For instance, it is not only possible but also likely for various large snowstorms and/or snowdrifts to lay down multiple layers in a given year.
Very short-term oscillations representing as little as a day or two do show up as variables in the layers of ice. Storms can vary in their temperature patterns. They can also last a few hours to several days, weeks, or even months. Of course, these storms and other anomalous weather patterns might present a bit of a problem for the uniformitarian paradigm. Because winter snowfall and summer snowfall are physically(isotopically) different. The methods we use, if anything exclude a small percentage of actual age. For instance, it is not only possible but also likely for various large snowstorms and/or snowdrifts to lay down multiple layers in a given year.
Considering we don't just count visible layers to date an ice core, storms don't really play into the equation. Very short-term oscillations representing as little as a day or two do show up as variables in the layers of ice.
One of the minor problems pointed out in the paper on Visual-stratigraphic dating of ice cores. Notice the word visual and notice how I point out that there are other more accurate ways of dating these cores. Scientists are aware of these problems, that's why we documented and published them, it's not a secret to any scientist studying ice cores. We've even developed better dating methods to establish more accurate measurements and to see just how inaccurate the visual methods are.

People can still migrate over the Bering Strait, but it is against the law. You have to leave a country and enter a country at an official port of entry. I just saw a show on TV where the Police in Alaska were sent to a small village on the Bering Strait to pick up a prisoner. They were able to get in and out by landing on the frozen ice.

I know what she was talking about...a land bridge...exposed because of the lowered sea levels due to glaciation, during the last ice age.
