It may have fallen, but that doesn't mean it cannot get up.
That depends
Reve 14:8 And another Messenger, second-one follows saying "She falls, She falls, Babylon the Great, the out of the wine of the fury of the fornication of her she has given to drink all the nations". [Jeremiah 51:8/Luke 19:44]
NKJV) Revelation 18:21 Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw [it] into the sea, saying, "Thus with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and shallnot be found anymore.

I don't really see them as analogous to Protestants or Protestantism. Old Believers and Old Calenderiests hold to the same ecumenical councils, honor icons, venerate the theotokos, etc... They are just in schism with the Church because they didn't like the liturgical or calender changes respectively. I guess you could say they are like Protestants because they are schismatics from the Orthodox Church and Protestants were schismatics from the Roman Catholic Church but beyond that I don't see a lot of similarities.

Interesting post and thanks
Now I wonder if the Protestant reformation would have occurred if that great Schism wouldn't have happened

When we speak of the Catholic Schisms with the RCC and EOC and OOC we see Churches led by Patriarchs having differences. But when we consider the Protestant Reformation we do not have Patriarchs that disagree. Instead we have Martin Luther who was a priest. We have John Calvin who was of no accord like a Bishop/Patriarch, let alone a priest. Or we have a King that lays claim to the Church because it is in his kingdom. BUT, we do not see a Patriarch that is in a line going back to an Apostle and with the authority of a Patriarch.
Each Church of the Catholic Church has a Patriarch that shephards it and is entrusted with an authority derived from the Keys. The Protestant Reformation lacks this and is not a Schism.

People forget about the schism between the Church of the East ("Nestorian Church") and the Orthodox too. That was a huge thing.
"Between the 9th and 14th centuries it was the world's largest Christian church in terms of geographical extent, with dioceses stretching from the Mediterranean to China and India...
The church grew rapidly under the Sassanids, and following the Islamic conquest of Persia, it was designated as a protected dhimmi community under Muslim rule. From the 6th century, it expanded greatly, establishing communities in India (the Saint Thomas Christians), Central Asia (where they had evangelical success among the Mongol tribes), and China, which was home to a thriving Nestorian community under the Tang Dynasty from the 7th to the 9th century. In the 13th and 14th century the church experienced a final period of expansion under the Mongol Empire, which had influential Nestorian Christians in the Mongol court."
-wikipedia
The Church of the East had not only sent missionaries to China , Tibet, India, and Japan but also whole tribes of Turks and Mongols became Christian via the Church of the East. The history of Christianity outside the Roman Empire in Asia is really interesting and often overlooked imo.

They probably forget about that because there are very few members of the Church of the East left today after the decline of that Church. At one time it was a huge deal and involved LOTS of people though.

From almost a year and a half ago, someone nailed down a rather important point for those claiming Apostolic authority to see:

I think your approach causes unneccessary division.
Heck, the early Christians didn't come close to agreeing on everything, far from it, they held diverse positions on a great deal, but they DID agree on the essential doctrines of the faith, an didn't allow secondary issues to bring division.

Then I would give credit to both the RCC and EOC for the spread of Christianity, agree? Remember Sparta!

Something else interesting and POWERFUL from a year and a half ago, between 2 posters that are still active:

Its in there...
Also - interesting to note that fallible men wrote the Bible - so why did God stop inspiring if all generations must have the truth?
Not opinions, but the absolute truth.
Now let's forget about dogma and vain traditions of men for the moment, and honestly seek the truth, ok? Here's the passage in question:
2 Peter 3:16 As also in all [his] epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as [they do] also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction."
Whether Simon was the rock, or the first Pope, or not, he was NOT saying what Warrior Angel has been taught to think. The word "wrest" here has no meaning of seeking the Lord. It means to torture the language to intentionally pervert it.
Quite the opposite of being led by the Spirit!
I'd also be awfully careful about making such a specious claim as saying Sunlover has not been chosen by G-d. You are concerned about not drinking damnation unto yourself, right?
