Is it a sin for a Christian to listen to Heavy Metal music?

Hi everyone. Seeing as how some (not all) heavy metal music is unChristian and even has anti-Christian lyrics, is it a sin for a Christian to listen to heavy metal music? Just thought I'd explore this with you all.

i listen to alot of secular hard rock and some metal. There are quite a few anti-religious songs and groups, but many also respect religion. I think its sinful in the context that lyrics may be straight-up disrespecting God and we give our approval by listening to it. So I just approach the issue song by song.

The OP asks: "Is it a sin for a Christian to listen to Heavy Metal music?"

ha ha ha.

I could see a person walking through a store, which has this Music playing.
Then, God sneers down, and delcares that every Customer has just sinned.

I chuckle at the "loose" logic of the OP: "Seeing as how some heavy metal music as unChristian and ... is it a sin for a Christian to listen to [ANY] heavy metal music?"

So,
1) Some songs are (in the OP's imagination) un-Christian;
2) therefore, ALL music should be sin-ful.

Give me a break.
Please, OP, list some of these so-called un-Christian songs.

Stereotyping at its worst (and lowest).
I ask the OP, is this ALSO True (in your warped perspective)? ... Some Muslims are terrorists, therefore, ALL Muslims are EVIL.

Ummm, I never said that. It was a question to explore. In fact, I do not believe what you assumed me to believe. I prefer to take it on a song by song basis. Other people do not. It is those people who I am wanting to debate with. Oh and try not assume anymore. You know what they say about assuming. Oh and do not put words in my mouth like you did by adding "any" to my words.

Well, OP, I noticed that you quoted me, but refused to answer my questions.

You make a claim: "I prefer to take it on a song by song basis." ... but you do NOT even mention ONE song that you would consider un-Christian (whatever that even means).

Come on, OP, this is YOUR Thread.
If you REALLY think some of this music is un-Christian, then please clarify yourself.
If NOT, then I will assume that you have nothing real to say ... and maybe many others will assume the same.

a bunch of tool songs have an anti-christian theme, although I think they are a reflection of maynard's (sp?) personal issues in dealing with it throughout his life.

I'll be honest, I am not that familiar with heavy metal music and therefore, cannot name a song that is unChristian. However, I'd be willing to bet that one or two songs from the likes of Marilyn Manson would qualify.

OK, OP, now that you have admitted to starting this Thread with NO knowledge of what you were talking about, I would like to go-over your put-downs of me in your response (Post # 4).

You claim: "In fact, I do not believe what you assumed me to believe."
What do I assume that you believe?
I don't think I said much.
So, unless you were flaming me, please explain yourself.

And, the OP claimed to take offense: "Oh and do not put words in my mouth like you did by adding "any" to my words."
I can't understand what you are putting me down about.
Please explain how my adding "any" (in Brackets) actually put words into your Mouth.

I think YOU are the one who is assuming too much from what I am am saying ... NOT the other way around.

So, explain yourself, and we will see who is doing the assuming.

In short...no.

The real Sin is anything you try to do, in an effort to attain right standing with God...ironic isnt it.

I wouldn't say it's a sin, no. But as you say, some heavy metal music (and music in other genres too) can be rather explicitly anti-Christian, and personally I wouldn't touch some of it with a barge pole (Marilyn Manson, the Rolling Stones, Cradle of Filth, HIM, to name just a few). But really, I'd say it depends on where you are in your walk with God.

God bless,

David.

This song shall be our parting hymn.

So raise the scarlet standard high.
Beneath its folds we'll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.
