Some 400 years before Christ came, Malachi spoke words to Israel of their falling away from keeping God's covenant, making unfit sacrifices, and Losing their respect for Jehovah God.
The people of God, lost their vision of who God was, and began to wander in the wilderness of confusion about Him.
Then God sent John to tell the people about their coming Messiah, saying make straight the pathway for the Lord.
As Malachi called Him, "The Messenger of the Covenant"
The Pharisees were Jesus' loudest critics, because they represented the fallen state of the people. They perpetuated the false image of God.
Jesus came to bring back to the people a clear presentation of God, like the prophets of old, to bring them back from their "wilderness" as to who their God was.
Always, the prophets of God came to rescue the people from their "fallen away" state.
I believe, because some reject the example Jesus has given us, as to the nature of God , and form other images of Him as being sovereign, to the extent that, regardless of the "promises made to the fathers", God will act in a sovereign way, ignoring all the teachings of Jesus, as to His nature, and move in a way contrary to His covenant promises.
When we abandon the precise teachings of Jesus about God's nature, and formulate an image of God based on the experiences of men, then we have come dangerously close to the condition described in 2 Thess. 2:3, a falling away.
Watch the Lamb, He is the way, the truth, and the life.

IMHO, the falling away began long ago when the prophets were tossed out of the church...along with the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit...sort of kicked off the Dark Ages.

Well, this is a nice theory, Franky. What it sounds like is that people may have fallen away from what you interpret as the “precise teachings of Jesus.” That would include me, because I do not believe you have everything down precisely. We disagree on too many fundamental issues and most particularly the intent of the atonement of Christ for sin, a crucial issue, IMO.

I think too many people claim to have all the answers, and sit on their high pedestals accusing the brethren. That is what Jesus got on the Pharissee's about. The religiosity that were so set in their way that they refused to see God, and sat in judgment of those who did.
The falling away has been going on a long time, and will continue to go on until Christ's return. We all have differing opinions regarding certain aspects of the Christian walk, but to say that a person is fallen away because they don't agree with one point of view or another is prejudicial and hostile.
What matters? Jesus Christ, His Crucifixion, His Resurrection, and His Return. What matters is that we demonstrate our love for each other, and spread the Gospel of Peace. PHIA doesn't matter. What music you listen to doesn't matter. Prosperity doesn't matter. All that matters is Christ.

The falling away is the CHURCH falling away, not the world......
Yes, it began a long time ago..............
Churches replaced "Jesus" with their own "doctrines" ...the "doctrines of man".........and still today.
Anytime you are following any doctrine made by man and not Jesus...you are a part of the 'falling away'......
Jesus Christ is the only DOCTRINE.........Take on his mind and nature...........and that leads to eveything else in your life...
BTW, this is not about somebody having all the answers...This is about God getting and waking up his people. And he can use who he wants to say what he wants them to say....You can believe it now or later, but you will believe it soon......
I don't think some people are understanding what God is about to do.......I really don't...........
He is cleaning up the "church' and he has only just begun..........

My post was prompted by another thread where repeatedly, the many quotes of Jesus were ignored to make the point that sometimes God's will is that a
person remain sick.
This was not a "point of view" it was the word of Jesus.
Jesus' words were considered hostile by some, when He spoke them.
John Calvin (1509-1564) Commentary on the Synoptic Gospels III, 389 Though Christ does not expressly state whether he intends this gift [of miracles] to be temporary, or to remain perpetually in the Church, yet it is more probable that miracles were promised only for a time, in order to give lustre to the gospel while it was new or in a state of obscurity Institutes of the Christian Religion, IV:19, 18 "…the gift of healing, like the rest of the miracles, which the Lord willed to be brought forth for a time, has vanished away in order to make the preaching of the Gospel marvelous for ever."

So that’s it (just as I suspected). Those who do not buy WOF theology or WOF interpetation of the "words of Christ" are part of the falling away.
You guys are so predictable.
