Family is not only 'great:' it is both natural and necessary. It is perfect. Any and all attacks on the institution of family and any and all actions to abolish it are abominable.
I wouldn't want to live without my family! I love my family and they are very important to me. However, they can be a royal pain in the rump! Especially my Dad. My Dad seems to disagree with absolutely everything I do especially when it comes to guys! My Mom on the other hand supports me in just about everything. She does disagree with me on some stuff but she does support me. My Mom and Dad are divorced too by the way. Me and my siblings get along pretty well anymore since everyone but the two youngest (Tricia 14 and Adam 10) have moved out. We had a lot more sibling rivalries when we was real close to each other almost constantly. Believe me, it's easy to get at each other's throats when you live in the same house for years and years.

it took me nearly 30 years to be able to say "I love you" to my mother - I had to first figure out what it meant and how to "Honor thy mother" when she can't be trusted and is malicious..... only G-d can do such a thing......
she was abusive both emotionally and physically and no one in the family, not my father nor either set of grandparents, ever did anything out.......
So I guess I'm not really sure what you mean about family being a good thing.... that is a rather blanket statement and just leaves too much unstated. I worked VERY hard to do my best to create a "good" family for my son, even as a divorced mother - and I at least partly succeeded - G-d is SO good.......
