Yeah, what he said, to insert something from your hard drive, you need to click on "manage attachments" and attach the file to the post. It will upload it to CF and CF will host it as an attachment to the post.

As for the majority of the solar system's mass being in the Sun, I don't find that particularly surprising. All it means is that fluctuations in the potential well of the medium from which the solar system formed were small compared to the well itself. Exactly as one would expect, I should think.

Yeah, duh, I kind of figured that one out. I was trying to attach like you would attach something to an e-mail, also from your hard drive. I have never attached anything to a forum or site before. I was trying to make a copy and paste it via attaching. No, actually I was hoping you would access my hard drive and look through my whole life.

Umm..THANKS for the help!

Why our Sun makes up 99% of the mass of our Solar System, because the planets that orbit it are VERY, Very small in comparison. Similar to grains of sand next to a light bulb. Our Sun is just one of Billions of Stars in out own galaxy and it is nothing special as far a stars go. It is a medium sized middle aged star.

Sorry have not read the other posts yet so I do not know if anyone else has corrected you one this.
Thank you, but that was already duly noted.

[quote=LorentzHA]Ok ,there seems to be a lot of confusion about the difference between Solar system, Galaxy and Universe. People seem to be using them interchangebly. An Astroner firend helped with the positions of the circles drawing. The first image is by CHANDRA using radiation to give a picture of our galaxy. We have never been ouside of our own solar sytem not to mention Galaxy so we do not have a visual image of it.

The area in the tiny red circle is the area of focus. It is the area of the Milky Way that our solar system resides in. I have made a red circle to show the area that makes up our Sun and nine planets-they all fit inside of the red circle. The blue dots around it are other recently discovered solar systems, orbiting stars like our Sun- in "near by" constellations. The stars we see from Earth are mainly in the green circle and occasionally we can see a faint one beyond. It would take us 150,000 years (in the space shuttle-approx) to get from our own solar system to one of the blue dots (we have never been past our own moon, let alone out of our solar system). That is right- in the space shuttle 150 THOUSAND years to go from the red circle to the closest blue dots. We are at the very outer edge of the Milky Way Galaxy. The Milky Way is a medium sized galaxy containing billions of stars, many like our own Sun

Ok, I used the mange attachments and it still will not work. I selected the pic off of my hard drive, added pic and then finish now. (sigh). sorry about the double post to your thread Dr. Feelgood. If anyone wants to see the picture of where our solar system sits in our galaxy and then compare it to Billions of other galaxies you will not think our Sun is that grand. If you want to see them just PM and leave me your e-mail and I will send them to you. (sigh)
