My MIL is the oposite, she loves that I am nursing and comments on how well I am doing. My mother on the other hand keeps asking when I am going to stop nursing, "because well Mary has teeth now". Like that is the reason to stop nursing, well my sister caved to her on that issue and stopped nursing when both her daughters got teeth, and is also now presureing me to stop nursing. I am taking the girls down there in 14 days, yes I am traveling on Christmas day, not by choice my dad bought the tickets for us. I plan to only nurse down there and not take any bottles with me!

As for supplementing, Mary gets forumla when we run out of stored milk in the freezer which is about one bottle a day 5 days a week. We are on our third formula. We tried regular formula and she broke out in a rash, then soy and she projectile vomited, so now we are on a sensitive AR lactose free milk based and so far so good.

Still breastfeeding here and Grace will be 18 months in a couple of weeks, she's only down to a couple of feeds a day and that's mainly for comfort, I think she'll be weaning soon because she's not really interested any more except when she's tired or upset.

Hi ladies, just saw this thread!
I am nearly 4 months into bf'ing my son. I bf'ed my daughter for nearly 9 months - weaned to TTC again, I hope to go for around 12mths this time. I am so blessed I haven't had any breastfeeding problems. My son can be pretty unsettled but is absolutely thriving on my milk.
We have also given zeke some tastes of food, my DH says he's such a big boy he could suck his way through a steak! But so far he's only tasted some fruit, yoghurt and mashed veg, but I'm holding off actually giving him a food meal for a while - got to watch my DH .
Zeke still wakes 1-2 times most nights, but he just feeds for around 15mins then straight back to sleep!

Breastfeeding has definitely been a challenge on many levels. Baby Bear struggled in the beginning with tongue placement issues. Starting at 2 weeks, he screamed all the time, and we soon discovered he had acid reflux, for which he now takes medication, and colic. I also eat dairy-free, soy-free, corn-free, wheat-free and nut-free due to his food sensitivities, which for me is an added difficulty as I used to have an eating disorder and it's difficult to be so limited in my food choices.

Despite all that, we're still going strong at 4 months! We will wait until at least 6 months to introduce solids because I believe that's the best for the baby, for a lot of the reasons listed here: http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/so...s.html#reasons

I'm also concerned about how Baby Bear's food sensitivities will affect eating solids.

We breastfeed on demand, so I have no idea how frequently he eats. He still gets up about 2-3 times a night to eat, but that's OK since in the beginning it was more like 5-6 times a night, plus staying up for hours at a time. Now when he wakes, he generally eats for 15-45 minutes, and goes back to sleep.
Just out of curiosity, do you have contact with a local or online Celiac Support Group?

There are a lot of parents dealing with what you describe, and many move on to 'solids' first with things like cookies made dairy/casein free with items such as arrowroot for teething, rice cereals (you have to be so careful as I found when just browsing out of curiosity as many now have other things than rice in them), and home made stuff.

I make almost everything at home, and between the celiac group back home, the ones I am online with (Delphi forums Celacforums.com for example) and my mom, we usually can figure out something for someone, even kids. It's a struggle and a lot more cooking than one is used to in this box/instant world, but it really pays off. I feel your pain and concerns, intimately.

It's not a baby, but my dad has all the sensitivities in our family, and with both parents with CD, my sister and I have it - and my brother refuses further testing to prove he does as well (as well as refusing diet change) and we're all in our 20s...

We'll be waiting a year to introduce solids... for the very reasons you stated, and the studies between the German and UK as well as different US Celiac societies

I don't, but I should! I do have a lot of experience with Celiac's, though. My whole stepfamily (mom, bro, and sis) has Celiac's. So does my best friend and my former boss, who is a close friend. I have another friend who doesn't eat flour, sugar or wheat So I have quite a bit of experience dealing with food sensitivities.

I find corn is the most difficult to get around. I can't use powdered sugar, baking powder, vanilla extract - and I can't use a lot of the GF mixes, either. I have made my own baking powder with potato starch and found some vanilla powder. I'm thinking of trying to make my own vanilla extract with potato vodka, though I don't drink and haven't stepped foot in a liquor store for years I do have quite the baking repertoire now!

Be back later, cranky baby!

Hello, I'm a breastfeeding mom. Ethan will be 14 months on the 22nd and now that I've found medication compliant medication I do not see us weaning any time soon.

I had a very rough start as I too had little or no support IRL and if it wasn't for some amazing breastfeeding moms I've met online I don't think I'd have made it so far. They are truly a blessing in my life.

Ethan got his first tooth at 6.5 months, now he has 8. I would unlatch him and say ouch. Sometimes I have to unlatch him and it takes several tries to get the latch right to include the teeth. At 9-10 months I had to go as far as stopping the feed altogether and telling him no milk when you bite because he was doing it to get my reaction. He drew blood a couple times so yeah...he learned he bites no milk in like 2-3 days and now we only have to work on the latch a couple times with each new tooth.
