Mary got her first tooth the 27th of november, and has only used it on me twice, though that was about a week ago, I am afraid she will bite me every time she gets a new tooth. How do I keep her from biteing me?

I have 3 kids and I've nursed him the longest and I have to say, it's much different nursing a toddler then a baby...it's been interesting and really fun! My son would bite me in the beginning of his teething. I learned that he usually would only bite when he wasn't really hungry, so when he bit, I would say no bite...then pull away and put it away. Once I started doing that, he stopped biting...it's been a long time since I've been bitten.

My son didn't get his first teeth until 10 months, I was glad he waited . He doesn't bite but it's just the teeth scraping on me as he ate that irritaed me at first. He's now getting his bottom two so we'll see how that goes!

Reps: 29,302 (power: 35) | | I am currently bfing my second child. He is 10 1/2 months.
At first my goal was to make it to 6 weeks. Then it was untill he had teeth( which happened at 9 months) , then it was one year.
Now I'm thinking it will probably be sometime in the spring. ( he turns one on January 30th)
I am already getting ' are you still nursing' from my In-laws Everytime I feed him there my FIL asks if I'm still nursing-ughand my MIL has made it clear that ' she'll have something to say' if i continue to nurse for ' too long'. She has said that you should stop breastfeeding at a year because ' that's when you'd take away the bottle'
aaaanyway . . .it has been mostly wonderful. The first night home from the hospital was AWFUL. I was so unsure of myself my DH was not supportive and I had sore , cracked , bleeding nipples. I was SO tempted to give up. I am too stubborn though - I'd told myself I'd tough out the first 6 weeks REGARDLESS. and once I hit the six week mark it was muuuuch better. I started to enjoy it. and now I have bittersweet feelings over the thought of having to stop alltogether. Be nice to get some freedom but I'll miss it. |

I really wish there was a rolling eye smiley! ugh! Don't let anyone talk you into stopping nursing until you and baby are ready (although after your comment on how stubborn you are, you probably don't need me to tell you that! ).
I'd probably nurse a really long time after a year just out of spite after a comment like your MIL made!
I am on guard here lately though, ready for comments about how I am still nursing, but haven't got any...yet.

Reps: 29,755 (power: 36) | | Breastfeeding has definitely been a challenge on many levels. Baby Bear struggled in the beginning with tongue placement issues. Starting at 2 weeks, he screamed all the time, and we soon discovered he had acid reflux, for which he now takes medication, and colic. I also eat dairy-free, soy-free, corn-free, wheat-free and nut-free due to his food sensitivities, which for me is an added difficulty as I used to have an eating disorder and it's difficult to be so limited in my food choices.
Despite all that, we're still going strong at 4 months! We will wait until at least 6 months to introduce solids because I believe that's the best for the baby, for a lot of the reasons listed here: http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/so...s.html#reasons
I'm also concerned about how Baby Bear's food sensitivities will affect eating solids.
We breastfeed on demand, so I have no idea how frequently he eats. He still gets up about 2-3 times a night to eat, but that's OK since in the beginning it was more like 5-6 times a night, plus staying up for hours at a time. Now when he wakes, he generally eats for 15-45 minutes, and goes back to sleep.

I am BFing for the second time. I DO supplement with formula as well so i hope i am welcome here!
My son Luke i BF till 15 mos..and i did supplement a bottle a day from about 2 mos on..
Anna i have done MORE supplementing with formula. She was also strictly BF till about 2 mos then i started with 1 bottle of formula a day and eventually i was up to 3 ..5-6 oz bottles per day..so she was being about half breastfed and half formula fed. But last month i decided to start slowly getting rid of the formula bottles and try to get back to like 90% nursing. So at this point we are down to 1-2 formula bottles a day..usually anwhere from 6-12 ozs formula a day and the rest breastfeeding.
Anna does ALOT of nursing at night..she wakes up MANY times to nurse..alot of it is comfort nursing in my opinion. Its so hard losing sleep for so long. Anna just turned 7 mos. I plan on nursing till atleast 12 mos if not longer..we'll see how it goes.
My hubby's side of family is ANTI-Breastfeeding. They ALL formula feed from day one and all think i am WIERD! oh well..whatever..i really dont care too much what they think. I mostly bottlefeed in front of them but purposely nurse once in a while in front of them just to remind them that YES..i still nurse..! lol

My MIL always asks how long I will BF and she was convienced that my son was not satified enough with BFing only because for the first 4 months of his life he was a fussy baby. I just ignore her comments because isn't exactly well educated in feeding babies. She fed my hubby juice and baby food from 2 months on... .
