If this is supposed to be considered a ministry (a term I've heard a while back, not sure if it's valid nowadays)... then words that wouldn't be spoken in church should not be allowed.
Watch out for those Old Testament readings.

Iam not advocating for a cussfest emporium, only pointing out cuss words are overblown and even with them censored it doesnt matter because there are several euphemisms which express the exact same sentiment. In the larger picture, what if, by some strange occurrence, everyone decided there werent curse words and people spoke them freely? My point is no harm could be found. Iow, the 'harm' that is claimed they cause is an illusion in our minds as a result of cultural training. No different than accepting it as normal that women shave their legs-that is clearly an unnatural act but through years of training we have this inculcated myth it is natural.
Can we use words that are put on the site by ads ?
I.E. Can we use the same words on the site that the site owner is being payed to allow on the site ?

Isaiah 8:12-13 (NIV) "Do not call conspiracy everything that these people call conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread."
This is a christian board - whats wrong with guarding our tongues?
Absolutely nothing -- but for this one's money it seems far more useful and productive to apply those scriptures to how we speak to one another in a substantial sense not a formulaic sense. One can write a polite, surface-pristine post free of any cuss words or questionable language whatsoever, even free of overt and obvious "flames", and still be dumping a load of nasty, button-pushing toxic spew on someone else with it.
IMO that should be where we apply biblical injunctions about guarding the tongue FIRST AND FOREMOST, rather than straining out the gnats of "cusswords" whilst swallowing the camel of permitting ourselves to rip others to shreds provided it bes done "POLITELY".
This puts staff in the strange position of givng infractions to those who use certain words in a mild, casual fashion (as in, "D--m. That hurt like h--l.") which suggests no harm or malice toward anyone, while allowing the utterly horrifying suggestion to be made that certain groups of human beings will be damned to hell.
I find the latter far more offensive.
Talk about straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel!
One thing that should be set about swearing here is that it's in text. Since you type out the swear words it is a very dilerberate proccess, it's not like accidently swearing in person.
Bullsnot. It can type nearly as fast as it can think, and on a message board it types conversationally, which does NOT involve the level of forethought and premeditation what goes into typing a treatise on nuclear physics or theology. There bes nothing "deliberate" at all to conversation whether spoken or written -- at least, not for ppls whats been on the 'net for 13+ years already. You just stick your paws on the keyboard and out it comes, same as with verbal conversation. Hit the button and it goes. Only difference being you CAN choose to read it over again and edit it later. Doesn't mean everyone bes automatically in the habit of doing so before hitting "submit" though. And doesn't mean they bes likely to start anytime soon. Good grief bes not life short enough as it stands???
question kiwi - you are complaining about what the majority of the board sees as a problem and that no one has the "right" to dictate as rules whats allowable by "american culture " but then give examples of your culture and want everyone to cater to it- how is that line of reasoning any different?
See, this bes a perfect example of what THIS ONE considers "corrupt communication". It does not edify, it does not lift up, it does not build understanding or connection, and it does not glorify God in the slightest. Heck, it's not even TRUE -- asking for other cultures BESIDES the one domineering to be CONSIDERED bes nowhere NEAR the same "line of reasoning" as automatic assumptions that the rest of the world either conforms to one nation's culture or can just go get stuffed. Don't they teach basic LOGIC in school anymore?
