There is nothing not Christian about using the words hell, damn, and ass as they are used in the common vernacular. And not one of those scriptures apply to any of those words. There's an awful lot legalistic about it, though.
I left out the word bastard only because I can't think of a situation right now where it would not fall under the flaming rule anyway.

Cuss words didnt exist when the NT was written. The only thing that comes close is blasphemy but that's a stretch in itself.
You really think people didn't swear in Biblical times? I wonder what all those carpenters said when they hit their thumbs with hammers. "Praise God!" no doubt.

Good point. Somewhere along the line, men decided that "ouch" was an acceptable exclamation in that circumstance, but "damn" was not. I could just as easily shout, "farkendoodle!" and be within acceptable bounds here -- if only people knew what that really meant....

snootch because some (actually many) people think its corrupt speech - using it can cause others to stumble therefore not a great idea before God. It doesnt hurt anyone to doublecheck what they are saying before hitting enter and there is nothing that can be said with those words that cant be said without them.
This is ridiculous imo - if you wouldnt stand up in your church and say those things in contexts other than biblical and wouldnt say them openly to a crowd in a favorite resturant or store then obviously they shouldnt be said in this public place either.

Normative constructions serve a derivative purpose versus original purpose and in the philosophy of language words can only have uptake when precedents have been set. Even then, uptake is subjective and since words are imaginary constructs for communication it doesnt matter what euphemisms are used because they do not and cannot negate the anchor in our hearts.
Real deal curse words existed in biblical times - its even spoken about in the OT which is even old than what i quoted but thats another thread.
Point being whats been decided here by administration is not unreasonable - it doesnt limit anyones ability to communicate and it in fact makes the board more pleasurable for all because these things do bother many people.
Lastly self control is one of the fruits of the Spirit.
