Reps: 123 (power: 0) | | Weightloss Poll Lets see some stats! I know the people who fail on diets far outnumber the people who stick to them. It almost seems motivating to stick to the diet just because so many fail. So where are you?

Reps: 10 (power: 0) | | | I lost 30 pounds doing atkins induction phase on and off. You can only have 20 g of carbs or less. it's taken me a while to maintain my weight because I didn't do it full time. On August 7 I weighed 198, and now I weigh 168. I'm still aiming to lose more weight with the same diet plan. After I get down to about 140 I plan on changing my diet plan to a more healthy one. For now all I want to do is lose the weight. |

Reps: 1,566 (power: 9) | | I was 245lbs, and could only Bench Press 75lbs, currently I weigh 215 and Bench Press 190lbs. I did this by counting cals, protien, fat, and carbs intake.
Atkins is great for losing a lot of weight, but not recommended for anyone who is in a high activity situation or works out. The Carbs are needed for energy. Also, long term on the Atkins diet has lead people into depression. But for the short term quick weight loss, nothing beats it. |

Reps: 23 (power: 0) | | My starting weight was 225lbs and I wore a size 20 dress. Today I weight 148 and I wear a size 8.
This has taken me 5 years and It was interupted by 2 pregnancies.
By far the most balanced approach for me was Weight watchers. I was able to loose a great amt of weight and I denyed myself nothing. Im on maintenance now and still loosing although Ive met goal. I have become accustomed to a healthy way of eating and I dont really remember any other way. I still have my cake and yes I eat it too. I just had to train myself to not eat the whole thing at once
I also run which is something I really enjoy.
Life is Grand and Im thankful every day to Jesus for guiding me through and out of my obesity.

PS Artist YOU GO!!!!!!!! 185lbs is an Incre-di-ble accomplishment. You did not get too far out as to not be able to come back. Ill pray for you and lifting you up as you drop those 40lbs.

Congratulations on your success.
However, many athletes can peform quite well on a low carb diet, or a varience of one. Modification would include the targeted ketogenic diet, and the cyclical ketogenic diet. Exercise duration is more of a factor wrt dietary carbohydrate intake than exercise intensity.
And long term dieting of any sort can lead to depression. There is no data indicating that a ketogenic diet has any greater propenisty for this than any other sort of long-term diet. |

Reps: 284 (power: 0) | | | I was on all sorts of diets growing up. I would lose 20, gain back 30 (over time). I never did keep off what I lost. I tried the Atkins diet (that one lasted about 3 days; I am a huge carb person). I went on a few diets where you would eat special foods and and lose 10 - 15 lbs in 3 days. I loved it only cuz it was a quick fix. Never taught me how to eat right.
The only successful diet was when I wasn't on a diet. I decided to change the way I thought and started to eat healthier. I wouldn't deny myself the little bit of chocolate per day either. I lost weight even though it was slow. That was the right way to do it.
I have to try that one again.

Reps: 5,189 (power: 12) | | IMHO... I may just be stating the obvious but...I think something to consider is, if your going to go on a specific "weight loss" diet, is it going to be sustainable?
Is it a way of eating you can live with ??? or a fad until you reach a particullar goal... cause if you drop the diet after a period of time, generally speaking, most people slide back into those ol' habits again. Everyone is made up different (obviously) & what works for one doesn't alway's have the same results on another. & in my (limited) professional opinion, some diets are down right No Good. they deprive the body of certain essential nutients. A good rule of thumb I have found for myself... is all things in moderation, eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly, & don't deprive yourself of treats either..
Enjoy life!!!

Reps: 244,222,268 (power: 244,237) | | | I've never needed to lose weight. I have needed to lose some fat.
I would never think to use Atkins because it doesn't encourage a person to cut back on saturated fat. The saturated fat is what creates cellulite faster, raises your cholesterol, and clogs arteries. You may be a thin person having a heart attack!
The best way to lose is to cut back on calories. Cut back to 2000 if you're a woman, and 2500 if you're a man. If you're obese, you will lose, and eventually plateau. When you plateau, you have to start exercising.-Talk to your MD.
