I would never think to use Atkins because it doesn't encourage a person to cut back on saturated fat. The saturated fat is what creates cellulite faster, raises your cholesterol, and clogs arteries. You may be a thin person having a heart attack!
The best way to lose is to cut back on calories. Cut back to 2000 if you're a woman, and 2500 if you're a man. If you're obese, you will lose, and eventually plateau. When you plateau, you have to start exercising.-Talk to your MD.
Yes, a proper ketogenic (read: Atkins) diet will encourage cutting back on saturated fat to a degree, and replacing them with PUFA's and essential fatty acids.
There is acutally no such thing as cellulite. White adipose tissue is white adipose tissue. It is fat any way you look at it, or store it.
There is a great deal of evidence showing that a ketogenic diet can lower LDL and raise HDL (references available upon request).
And there is no one "best way" to lose weight. Simply cutting calories is nowhere near detailed enough. One must ensure that the amino acid supply is sufficient (protein intake) or the body will catabolize lean muscle tissue, which equates to a drop in metabolism.
And your numbers are gross generalizations. I would starve to death on 2500kcal/day. Activity level, lean muscle mass, and BMR all play a role in determining optimal dietary intake. |

I am preparing for a powerlifting meet, and I will bring my weight down from 261 to 242 (at time of weigh in). For me, the number one concern is to lose as little strength as possible and still make weight. |

Reps: 11 (power: 0) | | | The only time that I was really big was around my early teenage years. When I got to high school, I joined the wrestling team and really leaned up and muscled-out. After high school, though, I lost that daily exercise routine and went from 180lbs to 236lbs at my heaviest weight last year. I gained that weight by eating cake everyday with the guys at work in the cafeteria, so once I stopped eating cake, I settled down to 220lbs.
Now, I run 3 days a week and weigh 205lbs. I just started running about 3 weeks ago and I've lost 15 lbs doing it. For me, the best solution to losing weight is the accountability of exercising. I joined an expensive gym as an attempt to be more accountable to running. They have an indoor track that I use instead of the treadmill, which makes running a lot more fun, since you are actually going somewhere. Right now, I am up to 3 miles per run (without walking), but I eventually want to work my way up to 5 miles. I also cut back on the sugar. In the past I had a lot of stomach problems and always felt bloated and gassy, but since I've been exercising regularly, my stomach has been a lot better.
Since I've been exercising I eat a lot less because I don't view food as method of comfort anymore... now, my outlet is 30 laps on the track! |

Reps: 1,161 (power: 8) | | I am very, very overweight. I've lost huge amounts of weight a couple times in the past, then gained it back and then some. In fact about a year ago I lost 50 pounds. It drives me crazy to think that, had I just stuck with it instead of gaining it all back, I'd be at my goal weight now.
I just started trying to eat cleaner and exercise - guess it took a brick over the head to realize that slow and steady are the only ways I'm going to keep it off.

Counting calories, watching what you eat and all of that is a good idea, but you aren't going to tone up seriously unless you exercise. Even walking burns fat. Someone said that losing weight is a lifestyle change. It most definitely is. You have to change the time you sit around into time you're up moving around. It doesn't take a huge change, but it does take a change.

Reps: 39 (power: 0) | | | I never had to lose weight, but I started on the zone about four years ago because I was having dizziness in the late afternoon and bad sugar cravings. Someone suggested the zone and it really is a great way to eat - protien, low-glycemic carbs and monounsaturated fats at every meal. I lead a pretty busy life so it keeps me going and full of energy. |

Atkins is great for losing a lot of weight, but not recommended for anyone who is in a high activity situation or works out. The Carbs are needed for energy. Also, long term on the Atkins diet has lead people into depression. But for the short term quick weight loss, nothing beats it. Now that is interesting. How does the Atkins diet cause depression? Is there a link that I can go to that talks about that? |

Reps: 1,718 (power: 8) | | I weigh 275. I gained 100 pounds alone in my 4 years of high school. I topped out at 280, then I went down 5 pounds, and I seem to have leveled out. I haven't gained any weight in a year and a half and I eat whatever I want, whenever I want. But I sure ain't losing any weight. I would definitely need God's help to lose weight because I have absolutely no motivation to do it. I looked at the ATKINS diet, thought it was cool for what it did....but you have to follow a certian diet to a T and there is no way I can do that....who has time/money to do that induction menu deal? Geeze. I'm only 19. I'd love to lose about... 100 lbs or so...that'd be sweet, even if it took 4 years--- the same amount of time it took me to gain it. Blah, I hate being overweight. I wish I could run without getting out of breath. But I have no motivation, plus my stomach gets this dull ache after I eat a few hours later, and I need to eat again for it to go away, plus I have heartburn and low energy. I feel like I will never lose it unless I got lipsuction lol. Any prayers/tips would be helpful.
