i only have a few 10ks under my belt. i am very new to running but love it.
i ran my longest run today-9 miles! i know to well established runners that sounds like nothing but it was my longest yet!
I do have a few questions:
1. what i have read is that you should run through pain unless it is bad enough it is changing your stride. It that correct info?
2. i am also struggling a little with appetite...i am soo much more hungry now that i am running everyday. im trying not to overdo the eating (but know i need more now that i'm running). what do you eat after a long run?
3.what do you personally use when you are running a 1/2 or full-as far as mid race fuel. i have read alot about gel packs, bars, etc...
thanks!

I can easily see why the folks at home want to eliminate Hell from their theology, preaching and thought. Hell is indeed awful unless its preaching is joined to a life laid down by the preacher. How can a man believe in Hell unless he throws away his life to rescue others from its torment? If there is no Hell, the Bible is a lie. If we are not willing to go to Hell on earth for others, we cannot preach it.

I am getting desperately afraid of going to heaven for I have had the vision of the shame I shall suffer as I get my first glimpse of the Lord Jesus; His majesty, power and marvellous love for me, who treated Him so meanly and shabbily on earth, and acted as though I did Him a favour in serving Him! No wonder God shall have to wipe away the tears off all faces, for we shall be broken-hearted when we see the depth of His love and the shallowness of ours.

Regarding the pain when running. It would depend on the pain that you are having. I had trouble with my knee two years ago. I kept running through the pain and it just got worse. It did help to ice it for twenty minutes after I ran. I found out that I was running with the wrong shoes. After being evaluated at a running store (Roadrunner Sports) I found out exactly which shoes I needed and I've never had issues with the knee again. I did have to run on a treadmill for a month (no hills) while my knee got better.
You are going to be hungrier when you're running longer miles. Just eat healthy and avoid eating foods with lots of sugar. I think it's fine to eat more as long as you can tell that you aren't putting on any extra weight. After a long run I wait about a half hour and then I eat two eggs, sausage and toast. I've heard that eating protein after working out is a good thing and it seems to work for me. Before the run I usually eat a banana or a piece of toast or half a bagel.
During the half marathon I walk through the water stations (for about a minute--the stations are about two miles apart) while I'm drinking. At one stop I drink gatorade and the next I drink water. I also walk for one minute every two miles during my long runs. It helps so much! You will be able to go further and you won't get so tired at the end of the run. I also eat a Shot Block at miles 4 and eight. After the tenth mile I don't stop anymore to eat or drink anything. I just run the last three miles into the finish.
Hope that helps some. Good luck with your training.

I had a couple months break from running just before Christmas but am now back out there even though it's freezing cold *shivers* I soon warm up though.
I've signed up for another 5K in July and also for my first half-marathon It's in October so plenty of time to train.

Hi all! I'm new to the boards, but I wanted to know who else here is a runner? Recreational, elite, racing, whoever, just wanted to see! I run mostly recreationally (and of course to *try* and stay in shape), but every once in a while I do races, and I'm trying to build up to a half-marathon in the spring.
Hope to meet some fellow runners!
I love to run! I've been running for years (did cross country and track in high school)... I do a lot of 10k's and half marathons throughout the year, and I usually do a couple marathons as well. I just recently got into triathlons, and I'll be competing in my first sprint TRI next month. Good luck to you all in your training!
When they have all you can eat I go running to the line. No but really I need to get back in to running when I was in high school I ran alot but I got hurt on the job about a year ago and still have problems with my back and I try to do some light walking when I can. God Bless all.

Good luck! I know what you mean about being tired of running. I've hit that hump a few times in the past... but keep it up, it will be worth it! I've got two days until the St.Patty's Day triathlon
