Chalk it up to experience I suppose.
But Radman, if you and Tofferer were talking about this book, yes the publisher is WELS, but it was written by an ELS pastor and layperson, actually from my church.
Sorry again KimLCMS.
WELS---ELS. Six of one and a have a dozen of the other. Don't know why they don't settle their differences and join together. They are already on each others web sites. |

I ordered three books from "The Lutheran Difference" series of books:
Baptism
The Lord's Supper
Justification and Sanctification
I'll let you know what I think.

I thought the series was refreshingly Lutheran and very interesting, especially when compared to other Lutheran study material I had used in the past. But also by that time I was investigating outside of Lutheranism so I thought some of the comparisons regarding what others (specifically the Orthodox and Catholics) believed were not always accurate or cast in the best light. After a while the comparisons became annoying. But I think you can understand why that would have been a problem for me then.
I think you will be very happy with your selections. I have encouraged my Lutheran husband to use this material.

There is a reason why ELS and WELS are separate synods, and I believe will always remain separate - not because they have differences, but because of checks and balances. If one synod sees the other straying on a doctrinal issue it will be brought to light and discussed. So basically the synods which are in fellowship with each other - WELS, ELS, and the European synods all help keep each other in line. |
