Disagree Dutch protesters' "save magic mushrooms"

Sat Oct 27, 11:02 AM ET

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Protesters turned out on Amsterdam's central Dam Square on Saturday, hoping to stop the government from banning magic mushrooms and asking to "save the 'shrooms."

Some wearing hats resembling the bright red cap of the popular fly agaric variety, protested to keep hallucinogenic mushrooms legal.

After several incidents involving tourists -- in March, a French teenager jumped to her death from a bridge after taking mushrooms -- the Dutch government plans to ban them...

I've several times heard gospel band The Evidence - who were all addicts for 12-17 years & had all been clean for at least 5 years each - say that those addicted to hard drugs nearly always start on 'soft' drugs

The end of Revelation 9 sadly predicts that those who survive the prophesied war, begun @ R Euphrates, that will kill 33% of mankind, will refuse to repent of their murders, their thefts, their adulteries & their pharmakeia - drug-fuelled occult practices

The best alcohol & drug rehab program in the world is www.teenchallenge.org - I'll post their contact click for any who need help

Yeah they quite recently outlawed the sale of non-dried mushrooms in the UK.

More knee-jerk politics. It's a shame the Dutch would take this step backwards.

Saving lives? I'm not sure how that would work. Magic mushrooms are not inherently dangerous, well, admittedly you may die from the laughing.

If you mean from the "gateway drug" argument I can only see banning of drugs as counter productive. Once people try the "softer" drugs and see that the horror stories they have been told are not actually true, why should they then trust the other stories about the "harder" drugs?

I think a more responsible policy is better drug education and not making substances illegal and pushing the problem underground.

I've taken shrooms, really not my cup of tea, but I would hardly call them dangerous.

Some kids die from being exposed to peanuts. So I'm sure a few of them would be adversely affected by peculiar recreational food additives. MUSHROOM is probably one of the funniest words in the English language in the same league as esophagus and snot.

Shrooms are actualy one of the safest drugs. You can't die from overdosing on shrooms.

I wonder how they plan to deal with Queen's Day if they ban shrooms?

And I garrentee you that more people will die from buying crap off the streets from shady dealers if people aren't able to get it legally.

There's plenty of stuff people will die from, I'm not familiar with mushrooms since I hate even the legal variety, but I have to say there are some drugs we ban which really are fairly benign.

So the mushrooms have been used for thousands of years and one jerk teenager kills himself while on one type of mushroom and the Government wants to ban the fungus. Absurd. And no you can not get addicted to that type of mushroom. It is not addictive nor is it even likely that someone would be willing to injest it frequently enough to become habituated to it. Absurd. The SSRI are more in line with the biblical ban. They are addictive. They do alter personality. They do destroy lives.
