Hello tonite I went to a Baptist service (don't know what you really call it so I will call it a "service").... I enjoyed it..... As a Catholic how do you feel about visiting a Baptist service? I don't feel anything wrong is with it. I went to serve the Lord and I feel going to another church will get me closer to God. None of the Catholic churches in my area have an afternoon mass. Also, I am using it to gain more knowledge in the bible. They did not preach anything against Catholics, or any beliefs that I as a Catholic do not agree with. Even if they would say something that I don't agree with; it's not like I have to agree with it (though I would consider stop going), but the fact is that they didn't and they treated me nicely and thought it was great that I was visiting their church. I will continue to go to Catholic church every Sunday. I am still part of the Roman Catholic Church and believe in Purgatory, the Holy Eucharist and continue to live as a Catholic. I am just visiting the church on the weekdays. Your thoughts would be appreciated whatever they would be. Thanks to all that post and God bless.
Not coincidentally, for a believe events happen for a reason, I purchased Scott Hahn's "The Lamb's Supper" this weekend.
And on reading YOUR post, x, I instantly recalled what I had read in the introduction to the book. (Not verbatim, but close enough).
I quote Fr. Groeschel on page XII and XIII.
I alwys feel a twinge of annoynace when i see in a college or a hotel a list of "religious services" and observe the Mass listed at 9 a.m. The Mass is not a religious service. When Catholics say morning prayer or the recitation of the Rosary or even have Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, that's a service. It's something that we do for God, similar to the public prayer of any religious denomination. But the Holy Sacrifice of the Eucharist, the Divine Liturgy, is not precisely-in its essence-done by man at all.
Let me tell you, I've been a priest for forty years and I never conducted a 'service" called a Mass. I was a "stand-in" for the High Priest, to use the words of Church teaching. I was there functioning in persona Christi-in the person of Christ, the High Priest of the Epistle to the Hebrews. People do not come to Mass to receive my body and blood, and I could not have given it to them if they did. They come for communion with Christ.
And the sentence which I love from his introduction is where he explains what Dr. hahn's book is all about.
The Mass on earth is the presentation of the marriage supper of the lamb.
*******
Personally, I have no concern for you, or any Catholic visiting a Baptist or any denomination's service.
Just realize that it IS a service and is no substitute for the Divine Liturgy, the presentation of the marriage supper of the Lamb here on earth.

And I stated in my first post that I do and will continue to keep all my Catholic beliefs. But, I do not feel that I visit a Baptist service is a bad thing. If you think it is please say so. As I stated I am very firm and strong on my Catholic faith and nothing could possibly fill the void of the Eucharist in my life if I were to leave the Catholic Church. Any questions or comments I would like you to bring it up because that is the reason I post on this forum. I look to my Catholic brothers and sisters to point me in the right direction and it is you who I turn to you when I have a question or need guidance in my faith. Thanks again
great quote from Fr. Groeschel Kenny! thanks for sharing it!

Or Senator Obama’s approach could be followed, whereby prenatal and income support, paid maternity leave and greater access to adoption would be relied upon to reduce the incidence of abortion."

Xaeniac, Peace be with you.
I don't see any problem with going to view the services of another faith. Of course, observing and participating (as in sacramentally or ritually) are two very different things.
I accidently went to a Baptist service a few weeks ago. I saw on a sign outside "Bible Study - 7pm". Thinking it was a "Bible Study" and having my Bible with me, I stopped. It turned out to be a full blown Wed. night service! I'm not sure who was more surprised, me or those who met me and learned that a Catholic was in their church. They were all very friendly, including the pastor. I suspect they added me to their list of people to pray for to "get saved." But that is fine with me too.
All they did was sing, pray and read from the Bible. It is a far cry from the deep spirituality that I feel in our Mass, but it was nonetheless nice to praise God with fellow Christians. Like you, it is no substitute for Mass.
I may be going to an Assembly of God service tonight. That should be interesting!
Don't get me wrong. I'm not "shopping." I'm a die hard Catholic. But if I can plant some seeds or clear up some misperceptions... AMEN! I'm there not only for the praise of God, but apologetically. And the one I want most to ask me questions is the pastor. After all, the sheep follow the shephard.

KennySe,
The crucifix in the picture is identical to the one I carry with me! Cool!
