Going to services in other churches occasionally to experience what they do for yourself, is one thing.

Going regularly to participate in the services of a church that teaches erroneous doctrine is worrying.

Since most Baptist churches deny the validity of the sacraments, the need for works and endurance, the communion of Saints, the Apostolic teaching of the One Church, Apostolic order, and other central teachings of mainstream Apostolic christianity, in favour of their own modern interpretations of selected scripture texts, you will be subject to the drip, drip, drip of erroneous teaching at the heart of every sermon and bible study.

It would seem from your post that you are getting something out of the baptist service that you are not getting from your current Catholic worship. Perhaps it is the preaching, singing, fellowship or Bible study. Whatever it is, would it not be better to seek this out within the Catholic Church?

If there is no Catholic midweek prayer group, fellowship meeting or bible-study you can attend, could not this be the ideal opportunity to start one? I am sure you could find someone to help you. There are many good study materials available, and you would be exploring your faith for yourself - not following the agenda of a group that, however friendly, teaches a huge amount that is contrary to the faith received from the Apostles.

Axion thanks for the word of advice. I understand and I do agree with your statement. Well I was misled into believing that it was a bible study class, and I stayed even though it was a service. I went to this service to learn more about the bible anyway and did get something good out of it. Nothing negative. I am definitely going to talk to my priest this Sunday. Thanks to all that posted; I truly do appreciate it. Thanks for being so great.

Xaeniac, Peace be with you.

Wow! Sounds like we did the same thing! That sign with "Bible Study" should say "Bible Service!"

With regards to your question earlier about the difference between observing and participating, it is like watching the game versus playing in it. If they were to have a communion, you should not receive it. But it is fine to watch how they go about the consecration, etc.... Why not receive it? It is not the body and blood of our Lord.

My reference to rituals was really referring back to someone who posted about a "baptism" at a wiccan service. I equate it to a sacrament, I just have a problem calling it one (maybe that's just a personal issue). In that person's case, the person wanted to participate in the "baptism" by being a "godfather." So you see, participation versus observation.

Singing, praying, reading Scripture... those are not sacramental and you should participate!

Hope that helps.

God Bless,
P12

Preachers12, it was the same except you read it and someone told me about it because I've been looking for a Bible study class. Oh well, they tricked me. Again thanks for your explanation and God bless.
