Demonic Attacks at night? Nightmares, and night terror. This is long, but please help.

Okay, let me make a long story short... I have a pentecostal background..was in for 12 years, I know the Bible, I know prayer, I understand spiritual warfare etc.

But in the past 2 months I have had recurring nightmares of someone chasing me - always a man, and trying to kill me. This goes on every night. I haven't been in church for a couple of years, yet I still pray. So please don't respond with a "you need Jesus" post. I know this, what I need to know is as a person who is not serving God fully now, why am I being attacked by spirits? My nightmares are very real. Last night I prayed and was like ..okay, im going to go to bed with positive thoughts..I finally slept well until 3 am. Cliche timing. But I went back to sleep and "saw" a figure standing next to my bed looking in my dresser..I said "what are you doing??!?" in my dream..the "man" turned around and was demonic looking and whispered in my face "your going to be IN A LOT OF PAIN" ..and I woke up feeling like something was in the room with me. I used to experience this during "spiritual warfare" times in my old church, of a lot of prayer and fasting..but as a sinner..more or less, why am I being attacked???? what threat AM I?

some more background info:
I have a boyfriend who has been living with me for awhile, we are in a good ...actually great relationship. He listens to a variety of music..that is brought into my home, he is an extreme worrier, and also used to have panic attacks..Im just trying to put some puzzle pieces together..what do I get rid of? what is causing this? I can give more info if needed.

thank you

Well, let's see how much this makes sense:

as a person who is not serving God fully now, why am I being attacked by spirits?

Try following all of the Bible, rather than bits and pieces. And living with a boyfriend probably isn't a good idea. There is no inbetween with God. It's all or nothing.

What do you get rid of? Sin.

It makes no difference to demons whether we are serving God or not when it comes to the feelings that they have for us. Either way, they hate us all the same.

You see, people that aren't walking with God often fail to sense the presence of evil in the bad things that happen to them, because they really don't know how to identify it. So a lot of people that aren't walking with God are being oppressed by demons without knowing it. In fact, this is why you will often hear people suggest that demons don't exist. The demons that are in control of their lives have hidden themselves well!

The difference with you however, is that you used to walk with God, but now you are saying you really don't. Thus you can sense their presence because you know what they are, and how to identify them. Of course, their influence over your life isn't so easy to detect, because the further you stray from God, the more difficult it becomes to discern evil. In other words, you may sense their presence, but their doctrine won't be so easy to identify. And to be quite frank with you, that is precisely why you are no longer walking with God. Their doctrine has influenced you to depart from Him.

Now then, I would think that the Lord is allowing you to experience this to the degree in which you are for the purpose of informing you that as long as you continue to live in the flesh, your fate will be in their hands. And as you can clearly see, they don't want what's best for you; rather, they want to kill you.

It certainly is better to walk with one that loves you rather than to live for one that hates you. Don't you agree?

Therefore, this should be a wake up call to you to return to God, and give Him your complete attention. Don't just serve Him in its and pieces, but give Him your whole heart, and allow Him to transform your life into what it was always meant to be.

Well, I myself don't fully believe in the "power of dreams". Yes, I believe God has spoken to people through dreams, but I don't believe He does so lightly. From a practical standpoint, you're creating your own nightmares. I'm not trying to imply that something you've done has brought them on you. Let me clarify.

You had this nightmare once, a long time ago. It was obviously traumatic and really got you worked up. I don't know why you had this nightmare, but there was some stimulus. But, because it was so real to you, and you can't stop thinking about it, it keeps returning. It's just ingrained in your mind. I've had recurring dreams before, always the same thing. And the more I thought about it, the more I had it. All you must do is break the cycle. I can't tell you how, cause there are different ways for different people. Try a Dream Catcher. I know you may say they aren't magical and won't work, but you never know. All you're trying to do is trick your own mind. Find a way to do that. Another method may be, sleep next to a weapon. The comfort of having an on-hand weapon my grant you the peace you need to sleep. I'm not suggesting you buy a gun or anything, but a bat or something. Something you'd be comfortable having near by.

I really hope you find peace and are able to get over these nightmares. I used to have Night Terrors, so I know that they really are quite annoying. Again, I hope everything works out well for you.

God bless

But in the past 2 months I have had recurring nightmares of someone chasing me - always a man, and trying to kill me.
Well first off, "nightmare" is a demon!

So you have a demon chasing you, and is trying to kill you.

Demons always like to kill Christians if able through seduction and deception and temptation and SIN.

This goes on every night.
Every night, Mmmm, so you must be out of step with our Lord Jesus Christ, and you are hard to get a message through to.

I haven't been in church for a couple of years, yet I still pray.
So, you are an out-of-church Christians, but still follow our Lord Jesus CHrist, is that correct? And you pray, then what do you pray for?

So please don't respond with a "you need Jesus" post.
Well, you dream is telling you that!
I know this, what I need to know is as a person who is not serving God fully now, why am I being attacked by spirits?
AH, now I see, you are only a half-baked Christian, is that correct?
My nightmares are very real. Last night I prayed and was like ..okay, im going to go to bed with positive thoughts..
Now, that is nice that you prayed, but if you are a backslider can you give me one good Scripture that says that your prayers will be answered.

I finally slept well until 3 am. Cliche timing.
Between 2AM and 3AM is a good time for demonic torment and harrassment.

Well, I guess you hit the nail on the head, you had a demonic encounter. So when are you going to go back to our Lord Jesus Christ?

I used to experience this during "spiritual warfare" times in my old church, of a lot of prayer and fasting..but as a sinner..more or less, why am I being attacked????
Because you are a sinner!
what threat AM I?
Maybe you are!
some more background info:
I have a boyfriend who has been living with me for awhile, we are in a good ...actually great relationship.
So, you are living in a relationship, just the same as anyone who are not married.

So why come to this forum to ask this question, when you know you are living in SIN!
He listens to a variety of music..that is brought into my home, he is an extreme worrier, and also used to have panic attacks..Im just trying to put some puzzle pieces
Well, was he a Christian once upon a time?

No use of putting pieces together because it isn't going to change things in your life.

If you want to step out or our Lord Jesus Christ's wing of protection and live a life of self, then what else can happen.

You see before you became a Christian it was happening, but meant nothing to you.

But, after you became a Christian, then the Holy Spirit came into you, and even though you backslid, the Spirit is still there.

Confess and repent and forgive and come back to our Lord Jesus Christ, and things may change.

Did you believe that if you didn't follow Jesus and go into all that warfare stuff, the demons would leave you alone?
Did something happen that scared you?
Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. Leave them alone they attack you, don't leave them alone they attack you. The only safe place is under the protection of Jesus. In Jesus name, christians have the authority to cast out demons. But you have to be in a right relationship to God.

Dear Mary

There is a Book in the Bible that use to be in the King James Version ( and is still in some ) but it is also in the Catholic Bible. The book is called " Sirach " . This is a Book every new CHRISTIAN really needs to read. It is not a story but it is full of TRUTH, WISDOM, UNDERSTANDING, and LOVE. If you don't have it you can read it on the computer:

" Sirach: Chapter 34

1
Empty and false are the hopes of the senseless, and fools are borne aloft by dreams.
2
Like a man who catches at shadows or chases the wind, is the one who believes in dreams.
3
What is seen in dreams is to reality what the reflection of a face is to the face itself.
4
Can the unclean produce the clean? can the liar ever speak the truth?
5
Divination, omens and dreams all are unreal; what you already expect, the mind depicts.
6
Unless it be a vision specially sent by the Most High, fix not your heart on it;
7
For dreams have led many astray, and those who believed in them have perished. "

As you can see it answers your question completely.

I hope this will release you from your fear.

ALWAYS REMEMBER:

“ Believe “ in Greek is a verb and has three components which are: hearing, accepting, and then " ACTING " upon that which you have accepted. X Even though you can't see him, GOD is there!!! O ( click on the x and drag to the O ) ( then see who is with you ) steven

Thanks WonderWal. If only all Christians would read Sirach, they would receive such wisdom and knowledge of the "earthly and heavenly things". Bless you mate!

Good that you know this, but do you know Jesus? Why keep the name of Jesus out of the picture? He is the missing piece of your puzzle.

some more background info:

So you thought it is relevant to mention that you live with your boyfriend. Well it maybe relevant, but not necessarily for the reasons you mention such as his music, his panic attacks, his worry.
You guys are living together, you don't see anything wrong with this? Your conscience isn't being pricked?

I would believe that this is a situation that can invite all sorts of negative spirits.

We all have nightmares or bad dreams from time to time whether we are serving the Lord or not. They may mean something or nothing.

This maybe a good time for you to examine your heart and your life. It is one thing to sin unknowingly and then to sin blatantly, there is a difference and we need to consider the consequences of our sin. The Lord Jesus is always forgiving and will welcome us back with open arms. Maybe this is the time to renew your relationship with Jesus or begin one with Him.
