I was just diagnosed with CAP (Central Auditory Processing Disorder) and I'm excited about working with it but I still find it depressing that it took me this long to find out. For those who don't know, the basics of CAP are that I can hear what people say but it's difficult to process it.
To make things even better I'm beginning to lose my hearing which makes listening even harder.
Does anyone else have this? How do you deal with it.
So far I've been trying to read lips, it helps with the processing and will come in handy if my hearing gets too bad.
I have not been dignosed with it but I think I may have it, or it may just be my other lerning disorders causing me not to process what is said to me correctly from time to time. Im sorry your lossing your hearing. I will pray for you becuse nobody, expecaly a 18 year old girl should have to go threw hearing loss!

Never diagnosed. I may have it on a small scale but i can't diagnose myself.
I find it very hard to hear when there are other noises going on that i miss vital things being said. On a lesser scale it happens when things are quiet i can still miss vital words or mishear or miss out what people say as i can't concentrate.
I have bad concentration.
The thing about me though is that i had conductive deafness as a kid (and no, i couldnt have gromits!) that may have affected this, however i also have a problem with light. What they call Irlens syndrome, and i never had a problem with my eyes otherwise.

Oh, cut the bleeding heart crap, will ya? We've all got our switches, lights, and knobs to deal with, Striker. I mean, down here there are literally hundreds and thousands of blinking, beeping, and flashing lights, blinking and beeping and flashing - they're *flashing* and they're *beeping*. I can't stand it anymore! They're *blinking* and *beeping* and *flashing*! Why doesn't somebody pull the plug!
I have something called expressive-receptive language disorder. It is sort of like it but not totally. I also hear what people say but have a hard time processing it. What people say is not exactly what i hear all the time. Its the "you hear what you wanna hear" disorder. It has kept me from having a lot of conversations with others. I have just decided to take extra long before i reply to someone, just to make sure what i heard makes since with the conversation we are having.

I don't know. I have several disabilities no one has bothered to specify- like something is wrong with my visual processing, but no one has given me a name. If it comes and goes, I think I might have it. Sometimes, I seem to understand everything just fine, and I have no problems with most music and such. But others...People can say very simple sentences and I just can't make sense of it, even though they are normal tone and accent- people I talk to every day. My mom had to repeat a sentence four times recently- and it was like like, "Hand me a drink," or something equally simple and common. But all I heard were disjointed syllables that didn't make any sense. Other times it seems like people are talking at a distance, or like I hear them after they spoke. Kind of like when you suddenly realize someone was talking to you, but I was listening the whole time. Have epilepsy too though, don't know what is what. Is that similar to what you experience?
