So you are saying then that the first surge was in the Cambrian Period? If so, are there any preserved forests such as Specimen Ridge in the Cambrian? It would seem to me that if this phenomenon could occur 12 times in the Eocene that it would be much more common in the Cambrian when there would have been so many more actual, in situ forests to harvest from. And when was the last surge? And, more importantly, what actually caused these surges? What was the actual cyclicity of the surges? Where did the organic material come from? Where did the sediments come from in a surging system? Does this give you an idea where to start?
