Mad Windows Bashing! Muuaahhahaha

!

Is cygwin the best thing going out there? I’m too lazy to dual boot sometimes, and I prefer dedicated systems anyway.

my solution is the complete opposite--I use linux but run Windows using win4lin (in fullscreen mode, it's almost impossible to tell that you're running a windows emulation under linux without doing some low level stuff). It's just like an X windows with a windows theme.

however, win4lin only works for win98SE.

No 1 reason I keep coming back to CF--everyday there's a new drama somewhere in the forums. You won't know where unless you're there

Well what I Got going is a desktop with dual boot 98SE/DOS/Mandrake, a Linux box running Red Hat and a laptop that I mostly boot into Linux off a CDROM but is native NTFS-XP. That’s not counting the piles of equipment/FRU’s in stacks of chests.

I think what I’m looking to do is toss out the CD’s, wipe the desktop partition and use something like CYGWIN on the desktop and laptop. I don’t have any use for a windows emulator on my Linux box though. In fact I am looking to upgrade and install Mandrake on that later. My desktop is a gaming rig so obviously I need windows. And my laptop is proprietary with tons of high-end software that came with it so I have no plans of wiping that for Linux and using an emulator.

I’m surprised how easy to install/use CYGWIN is. Download, automated install, click on Cygwin.bat and you got a Bash:. No need for multi Linux/UNIX native partitions. I think this is great for those that never used the OS before. I looked into emulators a couple years ago but they seem to have come a long way now. Well I’m testing out Cygwin and it seems to be the best emu as far as I’ve read. BTW I change the Cygwin.bat shortcut on the windows desktop to full screen and there you have it.
