Cat5e wireing for LAN and Phones

Can I use the same cat5e wire that connects my computer to my network to add a phone connections? Only half of the wires (4 out of 8) actually do anything and I didn't know if I were to branch off a couple of those to a phone jack if it would work?

I have not personally done this, but I believe my friends have done this and have not had any problems. Check with a Network Administrator guy.

I'm doing this in my home.....I have 3 systems running through a router and the router is connected to the cable modem....in the next couple of months I plan on installing a server also.....but what I'm looking to do is put a phone in 2 of the rooms that have the computers in without running new wire if possible.....I know that the plugs are different (rj-11 and rj45) but I can change the faceplate on the wall and add an rj11 keystone jack to it (at least that's what they are called here).....if anyone knows of any sites to do this I'd appreciate it....I used to build systems and sell them to people, but I didn't have any time to do it anymore and now I have enough time, but no one wants to buy a system for $1,500 when they can get them for $499 from dell, lol.....but when I was building systems I never got into much more than using a crossover cable to connect systems if I needed to..... I called a friend who is a network administrator, but he doesn't know how to do it and I don't know anyone else that would know

Thanks Everyone

Bill

What I was looking for was to run my phone connection off the exact same wire that my home network is attached to and I found how to connect the wires by just branching the blue one's off and not connecting them to the ethernet jack I can use those blue one's for the phone (and/or brown ones also).....
