Mere name calling by a person is bad, but can be innocuous. However, when this name calling comes from someone that has power over you like a supervisor, it is clearly an environment that you will find hard to excel in. I think the jury made the right decision.
The sad thing is that there are racists out there that will use this case to start beating their chests in their "epic struggle" against the "coloreds." |

Well, the word "ni****" is a bastardization of negro, which means black. So, using your logic, that word shouldn't be offensive either.
By the way, it is wrong and it is offensive - both words.
I try hard to not be offended but what does cause offense in my soul is so-called reverse discrimination ()or any type of discrimination, as far as that goes) being tolerated. That just frosts my nose!

Reason: didn't realize a word used as a bad example, with quotes, would be edited out...

What is "reverse racism"? Racism is racism, period. |

I am just saying I don't see the offensiveness in the word cracker..it doesn't mean anything to me other than color.. the N word on the other hand has the connotation of slavery

Maybe I am wrong? Well, down here in the South, it has a deeper meaning. Originally a "cracker" was an undereducated white man that cracked wise. At the time, colored people were already considered fools. Most of the crackers of the day felt themselves superior to the Negroes, even though they were too poor to own one. (As a matter of fact, only 5% of Southern whites owned slaves, and only 1% owned more than one!) The insult of calling a white guy a "cracker" is to imply that he is "pure" white, poor, and stupid!

Fundimentally i would agree but in this context reverse racism refers to the fact that the target of racism and the recipient of racism are of opposite races of those historically holding those roles.
