As I understand it, for the only past few years ELCA's new bishops have been consecrated by Episcopal bishops. But not the existing ELCA bishops.
But IMO the issue should be resolved, with regard to this forum, by this simple test: Does the ELCA "CLAIM" to be a church with Apostolic Succession?
That's the description of the forum, after all.
If that is an official ELCA position, I'd say "yes." But if it is the case that some bishops are in Apostolic Succession and other ELCA bishops are not, and that the ELCA itself doesn't assert any claim to being a church body in Apostolic Succession, then it should be "no."
Some of you who are familiar with the ELCA websites, documents, etc. (not unofficial talk from members on blogsites and the like, but official church sources) can run this down for us, I know, and then it will be settled.
Just an impression - the one ELCA web site I saw seemede to show the bishop as a kind of president elect, rather than a traditional life-term succession by sacrament. It seems like a corporate structure, rather than a sacramental one. The significance of AS is in the anointing of grace particular to bishops for the service of episcopal offices. It is a divine work. I didn't get the sense of that from the one ELCA site I saw.
Korah, you still there?

Roman Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Anglican Church, the Oriental Orthodox Church, one of the various Old Catholic churches, or one of the many Continuing Anglican churches?
I consider myself Apostolic but I am not any of the above; I believe in what the original Apostles taught in the book of Acts.
This ^^ is a very old post, but I'd like to say: Cool. I would love to attend one of the other Western-Rites of the RCC, other than the Roman Rite. (Not that I have anything against the Roman Rite. ) Do you live in Milan?

The religious truth of anarchism consists in this, that power over man is bound up with sin and evil, that a state of perfection is a state where there is no power of man over man, that is to say, anarchy. The Kingdom of God is freedom and the absence of such power … the Kingdom of God is anarchy. —Nicholas Berdyaev
