Iceflower,
Satan lies to us and tells us we "can't" or we're "not good enough" or "you'll never succeed," and he keeps us down and dependent and crippled emotionally because we believe his lies. God wants to expose his lies by replacing them with the truth. The truth is we are sinners, yes, but we can be saved by grace through faith. The truth is no one is "good enough" but when we are in Christ, all his righteousness dwells within us in the person of the Holy Spirit and we are made righteous in Christ. The truth is "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." The truth is "with God all things are possible." Of course this is talking about all things within his will and within his perfect character.
Satan likes to make us think we have no resources and that people can have power over us. I remember telling God one day a long time ago, "But God, you don't understand..." Ha! Of course he understands! He made me. He knows everything. But, I was convinced that He was somehow out of the loop and that he was not powerful enough to handle my circumstances. That was a lie of Satan. The truth is that God is all powerful, all knowing and there is not anything He can not handle. Nothing is too big for God!
The way to victory in your life over what keeps you down and what cripples you emotionally is to stop listening to the lies of Satan and to begin to put on the truth of God's word. I also use to fight Satan like an abused child hovering in the corner of the room with my arms crossed in front of me, but I learned that Christ already won! Satan likes to make us think there is some question yet as to who wins. There isn't! Jesus paid it all, all to him I owe. We have to fight Satan's lies with the sword of the Spirit - the Word of God and we have to fight proactively and offensively, not just defensively. We have to daily put on that spiritual armor to fight off Satan's attacks on our minds.
So, I would encourage you to sit before the Lord and ask him to show you all the lies you are believing and then begin to search the word of God asking the Lord to show you the truth that is in opposition to those lies and when Satan throws his darts at you, hit him with the Word, and outloud, too. And, sing songs of praise and victory, too. I have many, many songs I sing outloud when Satan is throwing his darts at me.
