I held joy in NEW questions last night in the wee hours awake. Joy in Your Spirit breaking through my jaded views.

I anticipate renewing joy as these questions dawn gently forward, breaking through the boundaries of my flesh's dull nature, and ushering me into the understanding that I have been searching for. Bring me toward the resurrection that I seek after with all diligence.

That I may praise and honor YOU with the glory.

Today, a new friend sat down with me and confided a deep pain... a niece was murdered in her native country, India. I know several of the family members...we all worked together. Their life is so different in India. No #911 or help for one cornered to be murdered. "At home, we never go out after 7-8pm at night, it isn't safe, " said my friend.

She told me a bit of their caste system and the great differences between castes. Marriages are still arranged in India. Her niece married outside her own caste and apart from the family's prearrangements for her. She met her husband on the IT.

The man she met and married is now in jail, with his parents. The three plotted and murdered this girl together. They only received a 6 year sentence! Her crime? She was too fat and they didn't like her. Now she is dead.

As I said, it was a strange place to find "joy," in this conversation. My friend is a gentile person. She and I have been forging a friendship for over a year now. The joy I knew was in her desire to share with me and in all the things she taught me about her people today.

Jesus, bless them in their loss.

after MONTHS and months of prayer, I am finally getting to the bottom of me on the Teknon turmoil. Geeze, what a can of worms our emotions can be. Mirror after mirror of scripture study to unlock this one.

I have been doing studies on offense, rejection, anger, steadfastness, Shepherding and sheep, anger, my mouth, the Word, the book of Isaiah and the book of John, Samson, Hezekiah Nebuchadnezzar, Haggai.....endlessly, day after day....and FINALLY this last week, my journals are starting to sound more like the old me and You, Jesus.

When the joy of new friendships is tainted with deception, there's a 'stall.' Not unlike the stall of a glider whose momentum ceases, midflight, just beyond the outer rim of a strong thermal...... add to that the undershot appraisal of a mutual friend and BLAM! I jet toward YOU, Jesus. You are always true and see with accurate clarity.


Take the helm on this one, Jesus.

The Jena Six... I don't really follow the news, so I didn't even know about this racism headline when I went to work this morning. All the black people at work were wearing black, that's about 35 - 40% of the floor. The black clothes are symbolic of their support for the members of their race that are on trial in La.

These people are my workmates and friends. Today, they were pretty charged with emotion. I know that much of that emotion comes from old pain, hurt and real prejudice that they have endured as individuals.

I've SEEN it come against them. Not at work, but when we go out somewhere. People really upset me the way they stand off and judge and scrutinize. It was a really foreign thing to witness for me the first time we went outside of work together.

My 'uncle Vern' was a black man, my dad's best friend, creator of all good culinary treasures, refinisher of antiques, head of the local American Legion band, volunteer at the local prison, bringer of peanuts and good food from Virginia trips, my brother's mentor and music teacher and fishing buddy to us all. To me black means a wealth of things since childhood. I was also in Detroit in the 60's as a child, visiting my aunt, when the race riots occurred. To me, racism is not only a real and current issue, but one that has grown forward toward much healing throughout my lifetime. ... that was my whole opinion until I went out with a few of the girls, for the first time, to a movie and witnessed the odd treatment my friends received from strangers. I was a bit appauled and frankly, shocked, that it still does exist at such a basic level.

Anyway, when they told me of the reason for the black clothes, I was moved to express my opinion....'Hate is bred through the tongues of men, women and, especially, parents into children. Parents, who do not recognize their own bitter grief and the pollution that their words spread into a new generation. Once commonplace in conversation, actions can follow."

I also thought, but haven't yet shared this:

We all embody our own painful experiences until we release them in forgiveness. We need adults who will model 'chain-breaking' and PRACTICE forgiveness that spawns edifying educational conversation... the treasures of our darkest hours are ONLY the 'lessons of overcoming' that we walk forward in.

Today, I'll read the news....tomorrow, maybe I'll begin to hear the hearts of my friends, if they choose to share with me. They were very fired up today and some were loud and letting out some pain.

TODAY, I cherished the smiles, the talents, the humor, the passion and the tenderness in the faces of my black friends toward me and felt the joy of their value in my life, Jesus. Thank YOU!
