Where do the other planets fit in?

So, what about all the other planets out there? Why do they exist? Why did god create them?

I'd love some kind of reasoning for the huge amounts of planets we have. And also some biblical insight into what might be on those planets, and what purpose they serve now, aswell as in the afterlife.

If anyone is interested, I am a christian. I have not yet updated my profile.

Well, if I can guess from Leviticus, chapter eleven, I'd say the planets are from an original "kind". The bigger ones ate more and the gas giants developed from an original stock...

Well, if we can assume anything from the Psalmist's feelings of insignificance and inadequacy when he looked up and thought, “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have established, what is man, that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you visit him?" (Psalm 8:3-4) we can probably see that one reason is that no matter how far out we go, how much knowledge enables us to advance our frontiers, we can know that God's already been there. We could be less than a blip on God's radar screen, but God has indeed visited us.

I take it you are LDS Daniel. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but that's the vibe I'm getting from your post.

A few more planets seem excessive to us... but to God....

There was a philosophy final, and it had one question, and one word: Why?

One student passed it. His answer was "Why not?"

I want to ask why not create more planets? Certainly, that's not excessive to God. TTYL Jesus loves you!

My 10th grade History teacher told that story. It certainly made me think... about what award they give to the world's stupidest philosophy teacher.

And if you think God does things randomly, or for no particular purpose, then you're okay.

The planets that we know about are "extrasolar" (out of our solar system). over 170. Those are only the planets we know about in our own Galaxy (Milky Way that are in close proximity (relativly speaking) to us. Those are only the ones we can see (faintly, with Hubble) There are Billions of other Galaxies easch with Billions of stars so who knows how many more solar systems those hold. We cannot even peer into the heart of our own galaxy because of distance. When you say "Gas Ginats" those are the only visible ones, the Earth size ones would not even be visible to Hubble at 15 light years. (which is not much, considering the estimated size of the Universe) even thought 1 light year is 6 trillion miles. (Our Glaxay, that our solar system resides in the outermost edge of.) I would imagine the Bible does not say much about this since at that time they thought the Earth was the center of the Universe.

Well now, aren't you a close-minded mean spirited person!

What bible are you reading?

I'd also say a troll is an accurate description of your posts.
