You have all these people saying that children will not go to hell, but you find all over the place in the bible. The bible isn't as clear as you think. But if you can believe everything you read, then go ahead. I just need some things clarified before I can accept everything that is in there. I believe in God and Jesus. I believe that they are both good. But there are things that make me uneasy. The sacrificing.
Sounds like you're reading a lot of OT. For the new beginner or seeker of Christ, I'd recommend the NT first. The OT is more like "meat and potatoes" for the older believers, showing us how God moved through the men of old. The NT, the gospels to be more specific, are best for the new readers of the bible.

Another suggestion alongside that is get a different translation. Starting out with the KingJames version is kind of hard. The older language style tends to confuse newbies.

You take the time to read about the things he did, get to know who he is (not was) in a personal way. Listen to what he says, read about what he did and allow him to speak to you through prayer and meditation. It worked for me.
