Wonderful testimony given last week at CR, one of the ladies in our chemical dependant group stood up and gave the glory to God as she shared how He has helped her come off the streets, and out of shelters, out of several abusive relationships, restored her children to her and now has an apartment, a job and is getting married to a wonderful man.
Thank you Lord for showing us the way to the Truth and freedom from our sin.
I love to hear the recovery testimonies!! It is absolutely amazing how God can and does change peoples lives in many ways. Check out some of these testimonies:
I am looking forward to Celebrate Recovery tomorrow!! Hopefully both of my boys will go along .... Of to work again ... commuting ...

what do ya'll think of making a Celebrate Recovery CF style? A social group could be created for that, but I wanted to see if there was anyone who has been through the 12 steps to actually lead this. I am just barely getting into my inventory and this is my first time in the program. My sponsor says I am making good progress, it is a real life changing program. I just wouldn't be able to make the group myself. I thought it might be good though for outside support as well as inside.

the testimonies are great. And I love how we sing praise music and go through the lesson before we break into small groups.

Yes, My boys and I started attending Celebrate Recovery in November, 2005, at Big Valley Grace. We go almost every Friday at Shelter Cove, which is our Celebrate Recovery family now.
I always look forward to reading the Serenity Prayer together, and listening to whoever reads the 8 Principals (two people), or the 12 Steps aligned with Bible verses.

I have been asked to be on the leadership team and will eventually lead a womens recovery of childhood sexual abuse group.
Does anyone here have CR experience? Anyone in leadership?

Hello -- I just curious, why do you think your Celebrate Recovery has not been successful? Maybe you could team up with another church, or several other churches? Do you have all the materials?
Can you get a live band together? Even just one person playing the guitar would make a huge difference!! One group I visit, God's Way Out (First Baptist) on Thursdays, is similar to Celebrate Recovery. They even have their own chips that say God's Way Out, with the number of years (or months) sober. They have one person who plays the guitar and one or two people who sing, which is great!!
Don't give up!!!

Hello Vivster -- Congratulations with your 23 years of sobriety!!! I'm coming up on 28 years this September 1st. I will get my AA chip at a local AA fellowship, 12x12. They give out your birthday card for four weeks, so everyone can sign and make comments, then on Friday, you stand up to receive your chip and say something brief. I always make mention of my Higher Power Jesus Christ, and also mention Celebrate Recovery, and something about God healing my life and my boys.
I also get my clean and sober chip from God's Way Out on the last Thursday, in August, one week early ... They have their own chips that say God's Way Out, another Christ-centered recovery program at First Baptist. I also get my chip at Celebrate Recovery. Must order my chip soon ....

I have been sober 23 years (November), and been "obsessed" with Jesus for a number of years now. Attending church and attending AA meetings was what I had been doing, but I really enjoy the CR meetings. The fellowship and small groups are great. I feel more comfortable sharing with the beleivers than I do in my AA meetings.
However.... I did have to go through a six month full-time recovery program, in order to realize that the obscession to drink was removed from me.
Also -- I like the way the 4th step is worked in CR, rather than AA, especially for the co-dependents.
Thanks for letting me share -- Vivster

Hello Linda -- I can answer your question ... In Celebrate Recovery, confidentiality is important, but .... when someone threatens to hurt themself or anyone else, we do have the right to say something to someone.
Another issue concerns people who must report any dangers, like myself, a teacher. If I hear that someone is threatening suicide, or to hurt someone else, or is in a dangerous position, or is endangering others, then I can make a report.
Reporting a dangerous situation is for the good of everyone, not to cause trouble. The tricky part is how to go about reporting .... Who do you report to? If someone is in immediate danger, then yes, the police should be called.

The pastor in charge didnt say anything, the lady called the police and social services were on there way to that ladys house the one that was sharing.
The next day i called the exc pastor and i tell her, hey about last night the confidentiality was broken, i'm worried about the other women in the group, yada yada yada...
The next Sunday morning i spoke with the lady who shared that the baby was in danger and i tell her, i want you to feel safe in the group and keep sharing, ill approach the lady who made the call to the police and probably she wont be comming to the meetings.
This unmature woman, tells the executive pastor and she comes to me and tells me ...did you tell miss ? that the other lady (the lady who callled the police and social services) will not be comming to the meeting? Because she said, here we dont ditch people. I stayed quiet.
Then after service at the fellowship i was talking to that lady that made the call about other stuff that had nothing to do about CR, the executive pastor jumped in and told me ...are you still talking to her about the calling social services, i dont want to rough her up, right in front of me.
At this point i felt really hurt.
The next day i called our pastor who was vacationing i thought this was really important, i tell him about what was going on, he tells me ok ill call the executive pastor and talk to her.
Now she dosent talk to me, she is mad at me, and the pastor told me that the lady who broke the confidentiality was remorseful and repented and they are letting her stay.
So now i feel so lost and hurt...
What do you think? DId i did wrong? Next time no matter what i hear, ill shut my mouth.
Please give me your feedback... http://www.myspace.com/lindagmartinez (my personal site) if you have a myspace page add me to your friends, i'm feeling so sad, i need feedback, thanks

I belong to A.A. and I am what some my say Old School. When I came into A.A. and struggled for a while and finally surrender totally. God picked my sponsor for me. Yes, I have been truly blessed sense I found recovery. Will sense then she has become of my dearest friends, and like God does he places us where we need to be and he sent her to Alabama. Where she goes to CR. When I have been down to visit her, my husband and I have gone. We all need what we need, I don't know if it is for me yet, I am not yet comfortable with the idea. That doesn't mean I won't get there, it just mean God has me doing other things at this moment. I believe the that CR may become a lot bigger than it already is. Those of us who really seek God will for us need more of His Word and Grace.
A quick update, my CR has been going for nearly 2 years now, this summer we have an attendance of about 150 adults and around 50 kids in precovery. Thank you God for the miraculous healing you are doing here and for giving us a ministry in which to use the hurts of our own pasts to help others.
To God be all the Glory, Honor and Praise!!!
