Reps: 214 (power: 0) | | "MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH," is "that great city." All we have to do is read. The first verse we read of her in Revelation is this: Revelation 17 1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
We see that she is sitting on many waters, meaning that she is sitting on many nations, peoples, and languages. 3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
She sits upon a beast. 4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication She looks pretty, but is filthy. She is DEEP into the worship of false gods. In fact, she is the mother [or the very worst] of this false worship. 6And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
She persecutes God's kids. 9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. 10 And there are seven kings:..
The woman was sitting on a beast, and the beast had seven heads. The heads are seven mountains, or seven significant end time nations, with seven kings. (Every nation today has some kind of a leader.) 16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.
The whore's end is to be burned with fire. "Religion" cannot be "burned" with fire. "She" is to represent something that can burn. 18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.
Now we know: the woman, Mystery Babylon, is a city! But not just any city: no, she is "that great city." Now, which city would God call "that great city?" John tells us: Revelation 11:8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
We see then, that "that great city," is none other than Jerusalem. Wait! There is still more proof: Revelation 14:8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
Where will the abomination event occur? Of course in Jerusalem. Where will the image of the beast be, that everyone will be forced to worship? Of course, in Jerusalem. The mark of the beast will be enforced from Jerusalem. Therefore, this great fornication, the worship of the great dragon, in the place of the Most High God, will origination and be propagated from Jerusalem!
Mat. 23 34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: 35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
Did we not see that about the great whore? Rev 18 24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.
Once more, we see that the "great city," is Jerusalem.

well from what I have been told, the city of Babylon was in the area of Lebanon, Syria, Iran and Iraq and apparently one middle eastern city apparently in Iraq was built on the ruins of the city. |

Reps: 10 (power: 0) | | | I believe the AC may very well claim to be the God of Abraham and unite his two warring sons , telling them that they are both the heirs of the promises given to Abraham.
Should this be the scenario played out in the bible , then peace between the sons of Isacc and Ishmael would occure and the AC could set his throne on Mt Moriah , then Jerusalem would become Babylon and be no more a mystery. |

The ancient city of babylon was in what is today called iraq.
The ruins of it are still there and saddam hussein began to restore it. |

It may not be NYC, tho' a very good guess, but I gurantee you it never will be Jerusalem.
But you are entitled to your wrong conclusions.

16. And they gathered all the rulers and their armies to a place called Armageddon in Hebrew.
17. Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air. And a mighty shout came from the throne of the Temple in heaven, saying, "It is finished!"
18. Then the thunder crashed and rolled, and lightning flashed. And there was an earthquake greater than ever before in human history.
19. The great city of Babylon split into three pieces, and cities around the world fell into heaps of rubble. And so God remembered all of Babylon's sins, and he made her drink the cup that was filled with the wine of his fierce wrath.
20. And every island disappeared, and all the mountains were leveled.
21. There was a terrible hailstorm, and hailstones weighing seventy-five pounds* fell from the sky onto the people below. They cursed God because of the hailstorm, which was a very terrible plague. [edit] Futurist View
Alternatively, a Futurist approach to interpreting the harlot of Revelation yields a view that is in complete harmony with the Golden Rule of Interpretation, which states, "When the plain sense of scripture makes common sense, seek no other sense." While John does use symbolic language in his description of the character and events of the harlot named Babylon, he does not employ any formula which leads the reader to understand anything other than a literal physical city which will sway many with her immorality (Revelation 17:2), exert extensive political and economic control on the earth (Revelation 17:4, 9-10, 15), and bring about a great persecution to followers of Jesus (Revelation 17:6). The account that follows details in plain language Babylon's ultimate demise and the reaction of those who witness it.
Critics of this perspective may point to the fact that Babylon has already been destroyed as evidence that the harlot of John's prophecy could not refer to the same city. However, similarities between Zechariah's vision of the ephah (Zechariah 5:5-11) and John's vision of the harlot give the interpreter confidence in the literal future rise and fall of Babylon. Even though he began to prophesy after the initial fall of the Babylonian empire (Zechariah 1:1), Zechariah sees a woman named "Wickedness" taken to Shinar, i.e. Babylon (Daniel 1:2), indicating that evil will reign once more in that region of the world. Employing the hermeneutic method of a consistently literal, normal, grammatical, historical, contextual interpretation of Scripture will lead the reader to an understanding that the harlot named Babylon described in Revelatio
